Sensory Analyst – Atlanta Plant

 

McCormick & Company, Inc., a world leader in the spice, flavor and seasonings industry, is seeking a full time Sensory Analyst to join the Quality Assurance team and will work at McCormick’s Atlanta Plant located at 5820 Tulane Drive SW Atlanta, Georgia 30336. The Sensory Analyst reports to the Atlanta Plant Quality Assurance Manager.

POSITION OVERVIEW

 

Under the general direction of the Quality Assurance Manager, the Sensory Analyst manages, leads and executes routine sensory assessments in line with internal and customer expectations and according to regional standards. The role will be the key contact for all quality assurance sensory related support and inquiries, including customer liaison and visits. This will include the management of the sensory program. The role will provide all necessary training and calibration of new panelists and existing panelists, as required. The role will require customer interaction and cross functional work with Research and Development Operations, Supply chain and the National Quality Assurance Laboratory.

 

The role is responsible and accountable for ensuring practical implementation and operational adherence to sensory programs as specified by McCormick’s internal and customer standards, thus ensuring compliance with Company, regulatory, third party and customer standards, while achieving Quality objectives and Key Performance Indicators (KPI).

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Management of the Quality Assurance Sensory Program
  • Set up, implementation and management of the Sensory Lab for all necessary activities, including the management of equipment and consumables
  • Leading and executing routine sensory tests, (as required) including setting up, evaluating samples, sample preparation, product release, data entry and panel recruitment in line with customer expectations and McCormick standards
  • Providing quality assurance sensory and technical support to improve McCormick business performance with clear recommendations to the business
  • Design and deliver the quality assurance sensory training program and associated recalibration training to new and existing panelists
  • Train Lab technicians on quality assurance sensory methods
  • Recruitment of new panelists as well as management of panel pool
  • Plan panel recalibration, and training of new products for existing panelist
  • Assist in ensuring the sensory program is in full compliance with critical customers specification and requirements
  • Conduct complaint investigations when related to sensory issues and construct reports based on findings
  • Support customer visits and requests
  • Management of shelf-life validation and verification, seasonal ingredient approval and raw material shelf-life extensions
  • Develop and maintain Sensory testing databases, analyzes sensory data using appropriate statistical techniques interpret results, makes recommendations and present in appropriate format to stakeholders
  • Ability to lift 10-50 pounds, must be able to walk, sit and stand for extended periods

 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sensory Science, Biology, or another related field or relevant McCormick experience in a technical field
  • 1-3 years of experience in quality assurance sensory required within a food manufacturing environment
  • 1-2 years sensory lead or supervisor experience
  • Ability to work autonomously, without direct supervision. Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team. Exercises a broad degree of professional judgment. Ability to multitask, adapt and manage rapidly changing priorities. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact with multiple levels within the business as well as with external contactors and customers. Ability to provide supervision, conduct competency assessments and deliver training
  • PC literate. Attention to detail. Ability to interpret analytical and microbiological data. Willing and capable to learn new skills
  • Must be willing to work in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to effectively conduct root cause analysis and develop corrective and preventative action plans

 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge of SAP, Compusense, and MES
