Graphic Design Manager - Packaging (Hybrid)

Position Overview

Under the direction of Graphic Design Manager - Packaging, leads graphic design initiatives for Club, Retail and FAFH across multiple brands. Which includes, but is not limited to, McCormick, Grill Mates, Zattarain’s, Thai Kitchen, ClubHouse, LaGrille, Gourmet Garden, Simply Asia, Billy Bee Honey .  Presents and recommends the right design for the business objective established in the brief to upper management. Manages and develops 2-3 direct reports. 


Provides design leadership to the department, including multiple direct reports, and partners with cross-functional business unit teams to ensure design and process excellence on all packaging projects. Ensures optimal partnerships with outside agencies and negotiates contracts for work. Closely collaborates with internal Culinary team, Marketing team, Insights team, sales team as well as external partners. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Consults with internal business leaders to develop, design and lead high complexity and strategic packaging design initiatives
  • Ensures alignment and compliance with strategic marketing objectives outlined in brief
  • Sets standards for package designers, photographers, illustrators, food stylists, printers, color separators and engravers to ensure every package meets consistently uniform high quality. Meets targets to deliver overall aesthetic appeal while achieving objectives of Marketing Management.
  • Partners with insights to present and drive design recommendations.
  • Determines work assignments and supervises work of internal graphic designers, including providing art direction and preparing creative presentations and developing talent. 
  • Manage strategic and tactical coordination with design agencies and design consultants.  Including, but not limited to: briefing, getting proposals, quotes, cost negotiation and scope of work approvals and feedback



  • BS,BA,BFA in Design, Communications, Marketing or related discipline. 
  • 5-7 years creative, graphic design, art direction or advertising/marketing experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to persuasively communicate brand vision and sell creative initiatives to C level executives. 
  • Proven track record of ability to manage and influence others, including external advertising agencies/design firms.
  • Experience with consumer research testing preferred
  • Experience with photography and art direction of food preferred
  • 2-3 years of management experience managing designers and/or production team. 
  • Stay current with the latest consumer food trends, health claims and innovation. 
  • Strong design capabilities 
  • Ability to lead, manage and influence others without formal authority 
  • Ability to apply principles of design to achieve specific strategic marketing objectives 
  • Ability to create solutions, adapt to new priorities and revisit logistical challenges to manage time sensitive projects 
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple functions and multiple levels 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Able to recommend and make decisions that are fact based  
  • Ability to mentor and develop design team members
  • Proficiency in Adobe CC Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign1
