Regional Microbiologist (Americas) - Hunt Valley, MD

This new hire will work at Corporate Headquarters, located in Hunt Valley, MD. The Regional Microbiologist (Americas) will report to a Vice President, Americas Quality.

Reporting to the Americas Quality and Regulatory Innovation and Technology Leader (Innovation SME), the Regional Microbiologist is the Quality and Regulatory person accountable for the development and implementation of Food Safety initiatives related to microbiology spanning manufacturing, product development, and laboratory integrity. This individual implements strategic solutions for the maintenance and improvement of key microbiology-based programs in the Americas.  



  • Strategic Planning and Microbiological Food Safety Leadership – Consult, develop, implement, monitor and continuously improve PD, suppliers, co-manufacturers, customers and regulators regarding the microbiological safety of our raw materials and finished goods (i.e. validation study design and review, challenge study design, product formulation and processing guidance, material deviation assessment). In alignment with global standards, regional standards, and business priorities, this individual defines processes and standards for microbiology-based food safety programs and is responsible for interpreting standards/requirements and creating a strategy to deliver consistent execution.
  • Deliver Improvements and Track Performance – Establishes processes that identify organizational microbial risks and selects solutions. Demonstrates ownership for implementation and adoption of new ideas to deliver processes that sustain business results. Uses standard JTE and quality methods to identify losses and improve performance. Regional programs include lab proficiency, site lab auditing, lab approval and improvement tracking in the region.
  • Global Collaboration - Represents Americas region on projects related to microbiology with the Food Safety COE and other regions. Collaborates with and aligns globally on program enhancements.
  • Leadership of the Americas Food Safety Review Board and regional validation studies
  • Incident Management and Prevention – Responsibility for troubleshooting and consultation for escalated microbial issues in manufacturing, warehousing, microbiology labs, PD, suppliers, co-manufacturers and customers. Assesses and supports site application of regional programs for environmental monitoring, sanitary design, and hygienic zoning standards, collaborating with Sanitation and Quality Systems SMEs where appropriate
  • and coaches where needed. Trains cross-functional organization on thermal process and micro mitigation techniques. Educates and provides technical support to manufacturing facilities to assure effective implementation of sanitation and food safety standards.



  • Technical degree in relevant discipline, Bachelor’s or higher degree in Microbiology
  •  Auditing proficiency through training or certification (i.e. ISO 17025, ASQ, CFSQA)  

  • Thermal Process Authority within 12 months

  • Supply Chain based certification focused on Quality and Food Safety: PCQI (or HACCP based on region) within 12 months

  • 5+ years relevent experience

  • Technically proficient in food microbiology

  • Experience in manufacturing facility or manufacturing support

  • Trade association engagement within 12 months
