Data Engineer Azure is responsible for developing and maintaining data processing software. Creating unique data infrastructure. Transforming data into a format that can be easily analysed by developing, maintaining, and testing infrastructures for data generation to accommodate changes in company needs. Work closely with the principle data engineer and the rest of the product team to conceptualize, visualize, and build an enterprise data management framework. Working closely with the data product team to support and deliver in an agile manner and providing scrum master coverage as required.   

   

Critical to the success of the role is knowledge and experience in programming languages frameworks like HTML5, RESTful services, Spark, Python, Hive, Kafka, and CSS etc. As well as knowledge and experience to handle database technologies such as PostgreSQL, MapReduce and MongoDB and visualization platforms such as; PowerBI, Tableau, Spotfire etc. 

 

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements. Convert algorithms, models, and features into production solutions by building efficient and reliable data pipelines, using simple, tested and reusable code. 
  • Leverage the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources, with efficient and reliable Data mapping.
  • Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.
  • Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs. Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve data errors / discrepancies.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability. Working with Data Science and Machine Learning teams; Investigate, test and introduce new ways of working and technologies where appropriate.
  • Understand data virtualization principles necessary to deliver solutions across a multi-cloud data analytics environment.
  • Maintain continuous personal learning and development to remain technological relevancy in current and emerging technologies.    
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor.  

 

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree    
  • Azure &/ GCP Fundamentals    
  • 8+ years of experience in the data engineering or data architecture    
  • Good knowledge of data architecture and data mapping    
  • Experience in Agile Methodology      
  • Strong communication skills and ability to communicate effectively on technical and business issues both internally and externally    
  • Solid leadership skills are essential    
  • Proficiency in leading both physical and virtual, global and culturally diverse teams    
  • Ability to work independently, navigate problems, resolve conflicts and bring solutions into the table    
  • Build strong interpersonal relationships and be able to persuade, negotiate and influence for meeting business objectives    
  • Innovative thinker - able to turn customer requirements into workable solutions    
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills    
  • Strong experience in Software and Data Engineering.    
  • Ability to write easily understandable and maintainable code in many languages.    
  • Experience with Data Warehousing / Data Lakes  e.g. MS Azure (Synapse, Databricks, Azure Data Lake    
  • Knowledge of data analysis, visualization techniques, and frameworks.    
  • Extensive experience with Python; Experience with Spark or PySpark.    
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.    
  • Experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures, and data sets.    
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.    

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience of working and creating in AWS, Google Cloud Platform; Agile methodologies, Azure DevOps
