The R&D Director, SEA is responsible for the scientific and technical direction and leadership of the SEA Research and Development Team across two geographic locations (Singapore and Thailand).

Coordinate strategic direction of the R&D function across SEA – ensuring alignment to Commercial (Industrial and Consumer) Business Strategy ensuring cross functional alignment and engagement at all levels.

 

Reporting to the VP Research & Development – APZ, the role encompasses:

  1. Lead the SEA Product Development team across two sites (Thailand and Singapore) and deploy appropriate resources against development projects, directing inter-team and cross-functional working when required. Direct and prioritize work per regional and business unit priorities and projects which support the strategic plan for growth and profit improvement.
  2. Represents SEA in relevant Global and Regional McCormick forums ensuring SEA alignment with functional goals and supporting the sharing of best practices and innovation ideas.  Develops strong regional technical customer engagement and relationships via on-site and customer’s facility visits.
  3. Build technological and leadership capabilities across PD team by developing an efficient team committed to excellence, performance and shared accountability. Develop top talent and manage and develop technical and leadership competency to address succession planning needs. Create a robust technical community to develop best in class practices and allow transfer of knowledge across functions, whilst maintaining required confidentiality.
  4. Lead Product Development activities to support local continuous cost improvement CCI program to improve margin performance that delivers a competitive edge, such as formula simplification and rationalization.
  5. Implement effective systems and processes to enable functional and organizational effectiveness. Ensure activities related to the functional compliance with relevant Acts/ Legal Requirements, Business Ethics and Food Manufacturing Standards. Manage adherence to applicable Global, Regional and Local policies and standards to protect proprietary information.
  6. Responsible for the overall health and safety of the SEA team ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures.

 

The Person

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Science (Food Science) or Technical - Quality/Research & Development.
  2. 10 Years Product Development Experience in Food Industry.
  3. Extensive experience in product development formulation (food) and demonstrated experience in the associated Manufacturing and Quality Assurance Techniques
  4. Experience in leading product development and technical teams across various product categories (Wet and Dry).
  5. Experience in multinational companies working across multiple geographies
  6. Experience in the commissioning, qualification and validation of a Greenfields manufacturing site preferred
  7. Ability to lead and manage multi-cultural and multi-lingual teams across diverse portfolios/ categories. Management of product development and technical functions across SEA. R&D Function includes, Product Development, Flavour, Culinary, Sensory, Packaging.
  8. Able to balance strategic thinking/influence with a hands-on, operational approach
  9. Able to balance commercial priorities and resource availability to deliver multiple development projects concurrently across multiple geographies.
  10. Foster a culture of continuous improvement - promoting both innovation and idea generation, balanced with and providing cost effective solutions.
  11. Collaborative but decisive.
  12. Influencing skills to win confidence of internal and external stakeholders. Stakeholder management experience (internal and external).
