Product Development Technologist – Coatings and Food Processors
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled professional for the position of Product Development in Coatings and Food Processors. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, developing, and commercializing innovative products for our customers, focusing on seasonings and value-added coating systems. This role involves working closely with customers, internal teams, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality product solutions while ensuring technical excellence and compliance with industry standards.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Design and develop new products in the R&D Laboratory for both existing and new customers, focusing on seasonings and value-added coating systems (Marinade, Predust, Batter, Breader)
- Lead and manage projects from initiation through to successful commercialization, ensuring timely follow-up and execution.
- Evaluate and monitor alternative raw materials to ensure business continuity.
- Apply deep technical knowledge of food dry blends, seasonings, and coatings in both internal and external manufacturing and production processes.
- Leverage advanced expertise in food science, innovation technologies, and product applications to expand customers' product portfolios and create a competitive advantage.
- Develop product solutions that drive value, improve sales, and enhance customer offerings through innovative technologies and expertise.
- Prepare and present product samples, providing customer support both remotely and on-site, with occasional travel required.
- Lead, manage and deliver the designated development & application activities related to key meat and meat alternative projects.
- Develop, validate, and prepare application samples for internal and external customers, ensuring products meet specific customer requirements and comply with legal and compositional standards.
- Build strong relationships with key customers’ R&D teams, ensuring high-quality service in product concepts, sample delivery, and technical support.
- Work closely with the sales team to ensure seamless customer service and identify new business opportunities.
- Manage and troubleshoot technical issues for customers, providing innovative solutions to help grow the business.
- Consistently bring innovative solutions to customers and the market, ensuring alignment with customer-specific requirements such as regulatory standards, accepted/banned materials, and local taste preferences.
- Develop and grow the opportunity pipeline by positioning McCormick as a leading partner within customers' R&D organizations. Increase customer awareness and understanding of McCormick's value-added solutions to create a competitive advantage.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive technical understanding of key customer segments, including their manufacturing processes, product recipes, New Product Development (NPD) systems, finished products, and brand and development standards
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of experience in product development, preferably from companies working with processed meat, poultry, fish, meat alternatives, or ingredient companies specializing in food dry blends, seasonings, and coating applications. Candidates with dual experience in processed meat and food dry blends will be given special consideration.
- Significant experience in meat product application, ingredient manufacturing, and processing.
- Strong knowledge of food science, including additives and functional ingredients.
- Understanding of nutrition and the meat industry’s product categories such as process aids and functional ingredients.
- Ability to independently plan and execute technical work, aligning with strategic business plans and managing stakeholders.
- Experience in delivering customer presentations and providing customer-driven technical support.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Team-oriented, self-motivated, and well-organized.
- Language skills: Thai and English
