Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the Sr Engineering & Maintenance Manager directs the activities of Project Engineering, Process Engineering, Building Maintenance, Security, and Maintenance Operations. Incumbent is responsible for all Divisional, Plant and Departmental goals, including reliability, cost reduction, waste reduction, safety, quality and sanitation improvements, downtime reduction, as well as ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures. In addition, this position will monitor progress towards goals and make certain that capital projects and other resources are being utilized to provide maximum benefits to the facility. Demonstrates a deep respect for the capabilities of all people, believing that people will contribute to what they understand, and feel is in their best and self-interest. Incumbent works collectively with Plant Leadership to actualize McCormick's vision and ensure objectives are met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Management: Manage day-to-day activities of Maintenance department, Process Engineering, Project Engineering, and outside building contractors. Will set goals, priorities, monitor progress, and evaluate performance of staff to ensure the maximum benefit of the resources expended. Creates an empowered environment (MHPS), ensuring that the Engineering & Maintenance organization and its people understand the goals and objective (OGSM's) of the business and that they have the resource and support to accomplish them. Establishes an environment that ensures and supports open and healthy communications.
- CAAP Execution: Prepare and manage Capital Asset Acquisition Proposal (CAAP's) annual budget. Ensure that projects are planned properly to provide sufficient funding, review data to ensure that results are achievable, and obtain necessary approvals. Closely monitor projects to ensure they are completed as planned and that funds are utilized properly. On an ongoing basis, initiate design changes and modifications to further improve machine efficiency, to facilitate packaging design changes and cost reductions, and to expand the capability of existing equipment to handle new products.
- Strategic Planning: Development of both strategic capital plans, ensuring an acceptable return on investment replacement of worn or obsolete equipment, expansion of capacity to meet sales growth, equipment modification or replacement related to packaging changes or cost reduction, as well as development of expanded productive capacity for new products. Coordinate the selection, design, and layout of processing and packaging machinery to ensure efficiency, optimum space utilization, and adequate production capacity.
- Process & Program Standardization: Responsible for ensuring that all engineering and maintenance processes are completely documented (including Capital start up plans, SOPs, DOPs, and run documents), and implement any changes to these processes. Accountable for the development and implementation of effective preventive maintenance programs, along with the establishment of a proficient maintenance stores procurement and inventory control system, as applicable.
- Risk Management: Responsible for meeting all regulatory requirements pertaining to the areas of waste disposal, air emissions, and facilities permits and codes. Responsible for timely filing of all regulatory documents to the appropriate Federal, State, and Local Governmental agencies. Ensure that safety and security measures are in place for the facility. This includes maintenance of sprinkler system meeting fire code and insurance carrier requirements, installation of firefighting equipment, and maintenance of an internal alarm and evacuation system. Responsible for meeting all regulatory requirements pertaining to waste disposal, emissions, facility permits and codes. Also, responsible for filing with the appropriate Federal, State, and Local Gov't agencies.
- Budget Management: Creates operating budgets and capital budgets with other leadership teams members. Manage department expense budgets with appropriate accounting information and support. Participates in the business planning and budgeting process. Develops short and long-term cost containment/reduction strategies. Manages operating budget for Engineering, Facilities, and Maintenance.
Requirements:
- Completed bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar field.
- 7+ years of manufacturing experience in food processing, pharmaceutical, or chemical process plus progressive leadership experience.
- People management experience.
- Shop floor/information systems experience, i.e. PC, PLC, Robotics.
- Lean Manufacturing, TPM experience.
- Manufacturing Process engineering/analytical process mapping experience.
- Knowledge of CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) and P.M. (preventative maintenance) practices. (preferred)
- SAP/ERP experience. (preferred)
- Experience in Food Processing an asset.
- Detailed understanding of how all areas of the plant interact to contribute to the business.
- General understanding of the industry.
- Basic commercial awareness as it relates to competition but only requires limited understanding of the latest developments in the industry.
- Experience in project startups.
- Relevant spend in capital budget.
- Advanced English both spoken and written.
