Flavors Laboratory Technician II - Hunt Valley, MD

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Flavor Technician will support Flavor Creation through compounding flavor formulations and applying them to a variety of tasting bases that represent finished products in the food industry for organoleptic evaluation.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general supervision of the Flavorist, the incumbent will be responsible for compounding formulations, setting up flavors and raw materials for screening and evaluation, recording data, managing raw materials, maintaining sanitation and organization of lab, recording pertinent data in DevEX and Excel data files, stocking, ordering and maintaining lab supplies, and ordering raw materials from plant or suppliers.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Acceptable attendance required.
  2. Minimum of 2 years food industry/food service/lab experience and 12 college credits in science fields
  3. Knowledge of GMP’s.
  4. Proven success multi-tasking in a fast paced environment.
  5. Ability to taste diverse foods including animal based products.
  6. Curiosity and innovative thinking.
  7. Meets standards in overall performance rating in most recent performance review.
  8. Previous compounding and weighing experience required, with proven accuracy and strong attention to detail.
  9. Proven ability to safely handle aroma chemicals.
  10. Ability to work accurately with calculations, such as ratios, decimals, algebra, percentages, etc., as related to flavor formulae in a fast-paced, high volume environment required.
  11. Good communication skills, including written and verbal, required.
  12. Proven ability to work within a team environment as well as the ability to work independently required.
  13. Demonstrated problem solving skills required.
  14. Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities and multiple tasks, with ability to take direction from product developers, scientists, and supervisor is required.
  15. Must be capable of utilizing all senses required for the evaluation of, i.e. color perception, taste, and smell.
  16. Physical requirements: Ability to lift 10 pounds continuously, 25 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  17. Ability to work overtime or on short notice in the evenings
  18. Demonstrated working knowledge of technical software or ability to learn and adapt. Demonstrated data entry and basic PC skills, including Excel and Word required

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with SAP, product formulary and retrieval systems
  • Organic chemistry knowledge a plus.
