The Packaging CAD Technologist is a critical technical specialist within the North America Packaging R&D team. This role is responsible for translating packaging engineering requirements into precise, manufacturing-ready CAD technical drawings and Graphic Die-lines (GDLs).
This role combines CAD expertise, packaging technical knowledge, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure packaging technical drawing data is accurate and operationally ready. This directly enables speed-to-market and operational excellence across our North American portfolio.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Packaging Technical drawing & Graphics Dielines
- Own the end-to-end lifecycle of packaging technical drawings and GDLs, including creation, revision, validation, release, and obsoletion.
- Develop manufacturing-ready CAD files based on inputs from Packaging Engineers, suppliers, and third-party CAD.
- Apply standardized templates, naming conventions, and revision control processes in accordance with data governance standards.
- Maintain a controlled repository of approved technical drawings and manage version control with high data integrity.
File Sharing and Uploads
- Provide GDL files for internal or external use as needed.
- Execute accurate and timely GDL uploads within the BLUE system workflow.
- Support commercialization timelines by ensuring timely and accurate uploads of the requested files.
Process Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Apply disciplined change control management to all drawing revisions.
- Continuously improve work instructions, SOPs, and CAD standards to increase efficiency and reduce errors.
- Identify workflow bottlenecks and recommend automation or standardization opportunities.
- Support onboarding and technical training for new team members on CAD standards, drawing best practices, and system workflows.
Candidate Profile
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, or related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in food or CPG packaging environment
- Minimum 5 years of experience in developing CAD technical drawings using AutoCAD and ArtiosCAD in a CPG manufacturing-driven environment.
- Experience with Data Governance, BLUE workflows, or structured specification systems highly desirable.
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and ArtiosCAD, including template management, layer control, parametric structures, and revision workflows.
- Strong working knowledge of packaging materials (corrugate, folding carton, flexible packaging, rigid containers, labels) and associated converting/manufacturing and printing processes.
- Understanding of packaging tolerances, die-cutting, print registration, sealing technologies, and production constraints.
- Experience with change control management and technical documentation standards.
- High level of data accuracy discipline and file management rigor.
