Position Overview

 

The Senior SAP ABAP Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering high-quality SAP solutions across on-premise and SAP BTP ABAP environments. The role focuses on building scalable, efficient, and maintainable applications, leveraging advanced ABAP techniques and modern programming models.

 

As a technical lead, the developer collaborates closely with functional consultants, architects, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into robust technical designs. They drive solution architecture, enforce development standards, conduct code reviews, and ensure performance optimization and clean-core principles are followed across implementations.

 

The role also involves developing advanced extensions and integrations using SAP BTP, RESTful ABAP Programming Model (RAP), and cloud-native approaches. Additionally, the Senior ABAP Developer mentors junior team members, promotes best practices, and contributes to continuous innovation within the SAP landscape.

  • First level contact for the Business Analysts for any inquiries re: application or technical support and potential technical solutions.
  • Analyzes business requirements and functional specifications to determine effective technical solutions to support the business across multiple entities (divisions, functions, countries)
  • Provide technical solutions and governance for SAP S/4HANA and SAP BTP ABAP solutions, ensuring compliance with architecture standards, development guidelines, and best practices.
  • Designs complex solutions across multiple functions, business units, technical tools and/or systems.
  • Designs, codes, tests, and implements new application programs and/or modifies existing programs.
  • Considers trade-offs between performance, scalability, reliability, availability, maintainability, manageability and business requirements.
  • Provides post implementation application support and regular system maintenance and support which will periodically require evening, weekend, and on-call support.
  • Support new project initiatives as a Senior Developer, designing and building SAP S/4HANA and SAP BTP ABAP objects to meet business and technical requirements.
  • Act as a senior technical authority, providing hands‑on guidance, problem resolution, and design support for complex development and integration scenarios.
  • May function as Team and/or Project lead responsible for completion of project phase.
  • Recommend and promote platform and industry best practices, including cloud‑ready development approaches and clean core principles

Level of Education and Discipline

 

Bachelors or Maters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

 

Certification and/or Licenses

 

SAP Backend Developer – ABAP Cloud

SAP Backend Developer – Cloud Application Programming Model

Any SAP Development Cloud related certification

 

Experience - functional/industry/commercial knowledge, business acumen

 

  • 8-10 years of experience working in the SAP ecosystem (required)
  • 8+ years of hands‑on experience in SAP BTP ABAP development (required)
  • Proven experience delivering and governing SAP ABAP solutions in large, complex enterprise environments
  • Strong hands‑on expertise in:
    • SAP S/4HANA ABAP development
    • SAP BTP ABAP Environment
    • SAP Business Application Studio (BAS)
    • RESTful ABAP Programming Model (RAP)
    • Cloud Application Programming Model (CAPM)
    • SAP Build
    • SAP BTP Workflow
  • Demonstrated understanding of modern programming paradigms and cloud‑based extension models
