R&D Sample Services Intern (FONA)

McCormick & Company, Incorporated is seeking a full-time R&D Intern Summer 2024 at FONA located at 1900 Averill Rd, Geneva, IL. This is a 10-week internship (June 2024 - August 2024) which requires 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

R&D Sample Services Intern provides essential support to McFONA’s Sample Services and Sensory programs. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Daily Tasks include:

• Entering samples into inventory, removing spent samples, monitoring shipping supplies, packaging
• Assist Sample Sections Team by retrieving selected samples from the Kardex
• Maintain the Kardex by returning samples and removing expired flavors

Projects include:

• Organizing and maintaining a stock of pre-selected groups of flavors using spreadsheets and our inventory system
• Working with Sensory to provide flavor samples for on-going projects
• Overseeing descriptors generated for a flavor library. Tasks would include:
  • Procuring flavor samples for the project
  • Setting up these samples in the Sensory Lab for tasting
  • Working with the Descriptive Analysis Panel to generate descriptors
  • Processing these results through Compusense and creating an Excel spreadsheet

Cross training with other McCormick FONA departments according to the Intern’s interests including the Sample Service Shipping and Flavor Selections Team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Current enrollment in science or math related college program.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required,
• Skills in organizing and maintaining a sample library or inventory preferred.
• Experience working in a laboratory environment preferred.
• Prior exposure to and/or familiarity with food manufacturing and GMPs preferred.
• Ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds preferred.
• Ability to work independently, learn new tasks, solve problems, and show strong self-motivation and initiative required.
• Must be able to quickly identify items based on labeling. 
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment is required.
