The Sales Director will report to the VP, North America Flavor Sales. This role has the option of being based in one of McCormick's office locations or remotely.

The Sales Director will be responsible for the execution of sales strategies and plans to achieve growth objectives of key business accounts, negotiations (including price action), RFPs and contracts, and overall performance & profitability of accounts. This role will oversee and manage 6 salespeople, and 1 Sales Manager responsible for the Inside Sales team. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate and execute a strategic business plan to drive sales and profit growth for flavor customers (by increasing penetration and/or distribution) to meet/exceed annual and long-term sales growth and profitability goals.
  • Work with Sales/BU teams to execute plans in NA within identified segments.
  • Network and build relationships at functional and senior leadership levels at key customers, across flavor industry customer base and within NA Sales team to build customer intimacy.
  • Leverage McCormick’s value proposition and technology to gain flavor share and core list presence.
  • Work cross- functionally (Procurement, Business Units, Finance, Pricing, Regulatory and Supply Chain) to optimize opportunities, drive results, and deliver customer intimacy.
  • Provide monthly reporting to Senior McCormick Leadership team on account Sales and Profit performance.
  • Identify opportunities to profitably drive growth and increase McCormick's GM%.
  • Direct the inside sales effort to win and develop business at emerging and new customer accounts.
  • Develop diverse slate of talent to ensure immediate and long-term growth plans are met and succession planning is created for future roles across MKC
  • Participation in flavor industry related events and associations
  • This position typically requires ~60% travel and is home-office base. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field; Sales preferred
  • 10+ years sales experience with 5+ years Senior Sales/Sales Management and/or sales experience in the Flavor/Ingredient industry
  • Working knowledge of technical aspects of products, i.e. nomenclature, applicability within customer's manufacturing process, substitution choices, new discoveries, etc.
  • Demonstrable critical thinking skills and business acumen.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communications skills that are clear, concise, appropriate in timing, and directed to appropriate levels.
  • Experience leading customer contract negotiations to achieve desirable and profitable business outcomes.
  • Proven project management skills in a sales cycle from six weeks to eighteen months.
  • Abilit to manage internal resources and prioritize appropriately.
  • Ability to be innovative and take risks to drive new initiatives and new business.
  • Highly motivated, self-starter who is forward-thinking problem solver with excellent contacts and strong work ethic.
  • Strong organizational skills to effectively manage multiple tasks and opportunities simultaneously.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. 
  • Valid drivers license.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • US business to business sales experience
  • Recognized in the flavor industry through participation in industry related events and associations
  • Experienced with Salesforce.com or other similar CRM software
  • Integrated Business Planning (IBP) experience
  • Experience managing P&L > $100M
