Position Overview

Reporting to the Sample Services Manufacturing Lead, this position is flexible on a day-to-day basis and includes any of the following as required to meet the needs of the Sample Services team’s internal and external customers:  Compounding, spray dryer operation and/or Glass Encapsulation operation, training for spray dryer and Glass Encapsulation extruder operations, providing back-up for the Sample Services Manufacturing Lead as needed and other duties to be assigned as required.  Duties and responsibilities include the following: 

Equipment Operation:

  • Operate both Sample Services spray dryers, liquid compounding and Glass Encapsulation extruder while applying basic principles including equipment flow and functions
  • Follow spray dryer and Glass Encapsulation extruder start-up and shutdown procedures
  • Perform proper cleaning procedures for spray dryer, Glass Encapsulation extruder and supporting equipment
  • Perform spray dryer and Glass Encapsulation extruder emergency procedures
  • Use and maintain spray dryer
  • Perform proper liquid compounding practices to ensure proper quality and food safety

Training:

  • Perform hands-on training with new hires and Sample Services team members for compounding as well as spray dryer and Glass Encapsulation extruder operation and cleaning as needed

Compounding:

  • Accurately scan, weigh and record ingredients to produce base, Glass Encapsulation, spray dry emulsions and other compounds
  • Apply working knowledge of raw material codes, lot numbering and WMS locator systems
  • Adhere to Quality Assurance sampling requirements and procedures while observing batch documentation as well as MSDS and warning labels

Other:

  • Actively assess the impact of work (and mistakes) in overall operation and correct/notify appropriate personnel accordingly
  • Identify trends in equipment performance and maintenance issues and communicate these observations effectively to maintenance and Sample Services Supervisor
  • Properly operate a forklift (certification required)
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices and comply with Food Safety and Hygiene regulations
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner using appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Maintain 24/7 Audit-Ready facility

 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • A minimum of 24 college credits/CEUs OR in lieu of college credits, 4 years of lab experience.
  • Strong PC skills required. Experience operating in a Windows environment, managing files and handling data.
  • Experience in a food manufacturing or food preparation environment, kitchen or lab and knowledge of food safety.  Beginner level cooking skills.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution.
  • Ability to be self-directed and motivated.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize work effectively.
  • Experience following principles and making informed decisions.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to present information to peers in a logical manner.
  • Must possess strong teamwork capabilities, flexibility to adjust to project demands including weekends and overtime on very rare occasions.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Ability to lift 10 pounds continuously, 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Strong math skills including the ability to work accurately with formulas and decimals.
