We are looking to hire a Scientist II, Product Development immediately at our Technical Innovation Center in Hunt Valley, MD or McFONA Labs in Geneva, IL.

Position Summary

The Scientist II supports continued growth through identifying and translating trends and market information into actionable formats that align with campaigns, communication tools, marketing presentations and relationship-building initiatives. The Scientist II is responsible for our Business Unit’s proactive demo platform, aligning its vision and deliverables with market trends and customer needs. This position also has the responsibility of building upon our customer-focused innovation platform and will involve direct interaction with customers to support their innovation efforts. This position will work within both technical and marketing functions to ensure McCormick’s strategic objectives are met.  This position will report to a Director II, Product Development. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Proactively partner with sales, marketing, and technical teams to help drive collaborative innovation, solutions for our customers, and the advancement of projects, growth of pipeline, and generation of opportunities.
  • Lead our proactive demo platform designed to showcase McCormick’s expertise and gain customer acceptance to begin new projects based on self-initiated concepts, products, technologies in a variety of food product. Maintain a robust pipeline of compelling, innovative, and effective demos.
  • Identify & support opportunities for communication of McCormick’s differentiated taste solutions in-person or through blogs, videos, and other mediums.
  • Collaborate with BU leadership team and marketing to develop a strategy and execute resulting marketing initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with the sales team to align proactive business unit strategies with account-specific strategies to drive pipeline growth.
  • Build relationships at key accounts to deliver value that promotes growth.
  • Provide support to marketing on tradeshow initiatives for Business Unit.

 

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Food Science or related degree required
  • Up to 10 plus years of food industry or related industry experience in product development and applications in food-based matrices
  • Experience and understanding of R&D and product development processes and requirements.
  • Proven ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining the ability to redirect efforts based upon shifting demands.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and network with business colleagues to build constructive, proactive working relationships across the organization.
  • Understanding of consumer brand landscape as well as marketplace and culinary-influenced trends.
  • Possesses analytical skills to discern/diagnose trends and issues and use past historical references as a guide.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and provide direction to technicians.
  • Clear thinker and communicator, with the ability to articulate and influence across all levels of an organization, both internal and external.
  • Provides optimistic, enthusiastic, innovative customer leadership skills to the McCormick Food BU and Sales teams.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize both proactive and reactive work for select accounts.

Base Salary: $72,930 to $127,640
Base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience for this role, and/or internal equity of our current employees as part of any final offer. This position is also eligible to participate in McCormick’s Incentive Bonus (MIB) Plan. In addition to a competitive compensation package, permanent employees of McCormick are eligible for our extensive Total Rewards programs that include:
