Position: R&D Director Flavour Solutions EMEA

Based: Haddenham, UK

 

 

The Flavour Solutions (FS) Director sets strategic direction and links R&D FS teams to the business strategy ensuring cross-functional alignment and engagement at all levels. They ensure the correct structures, resources and talent are in place. They lead the EMEA FS Product Development (PD) and Process teams (seasonings, beverage & condiments) across multiple sites/countries and deploy appropriate resource and skills against development projects, Directs inter-team and cross-functional working when required. Encourage a culture of pro-active idea generation and innovative spirit that contributes to the development of long-term business strategy. SCOPE OF THE ROLE

 

Key responsibilities & accountabilities

 

  • Sets strategic direction that links the R&D Flavour Solutions team to business strategy ensuring cross functional alignment and engagement at all levels. Critical member of Flavour Solutions Commercial Leadership Team. Accountable for stakeholder management across the business to support the prioritisation and achievement of business objectives.
  • Leads the EMEA Flavour Solutions Product Development and Process improvement teams (seasonings, meals, coating, condiments) across multiple sites and countries and deploys appropriate resource and skills against development projects, directing inter-team and cross-functional working when required.
  • Directs and prioritises timely and accurate responses to product development and process improvements which enable execution of the Flavour Solutions strategic plan for growth and profit improvement.
  • Leads Flavour Solutions R&D activities that support the EMEA productivity improvement programme (CCI) to improve margin performance that delivers a competitive edge and is wholly aligned to business objectives.
  • Lead Flavour Solutions business continuity & capacity expansion projects that are instrumental to unlocking growth roadmaps and enhancing profitability.
  • Builds and maintains relationships and a network of business partners internal and external to the organisation that enable the development of best in class practices across the zone, knowledge transfer and development of regional technology roadmaps.
  • Establishes effective ways of working with relevant technical Customer Service Teams, Site QA and Operations teams to ensure local teams implement regional projects.
  • Represents EMEA Flavour Solutions R&D functions in relevant Global and Pan-European customer engagements both on-site and at the customers’ facilities.
  • Contributes strategic thinking to Long Term Planning for the EMEA region as well as Global R&D Strategy.
  • Builds technological and leadership capabilities across Flavour Solutions Product Development team by developing an efficient regional team committed to excellence, performance and shared accountability.  Develops and selects the best talent and invests in staff development programmes and succession planning.
  • Manages all aspects of talent and performance management for Flavour Solutions R&D. Raises awareness and promotes the capabilities of the product development and process team throughout the business.
  • Encourages a culture of pro-active idea generation and innovative spirit.
  • Provides effective leadership, communication and change management.
  • Manages proprietary information and implements systems and programs for organisational effectiveness.

       PERSON SPECIFICATION

    

         Education:

         •    Degree level qualification in a technical (preferably food science or technology) discipline

     

         Background

 

  • More than 10 years proven experience in the food industry including some customer (B2B) relationship management in leadership role
  • Operational and strategic experience gained in a multi-cultural, multi-site and matrix working environment
  • EMEA knowledge, multi-lingual capability preferable and experience working outside home country a distinct advantage.

    

    

        Technical knowledge and experience 

 

  • Proven experience of managing larger diverse teams preferably across different countries
  • Successful track record of leadership in a related function
  • Strong proven knowledge of designing ‘dry/seasoning’ and condiments products and the associated technologies
  • Strong Ingredient knowledge
  • Knowledge of Flavour science/technology is a distinct advantage
