Consumer Testing Lab Tech II

This new hire will work at the Technical Innovation Center, located in Hunt Valley, MD. The Consumer Testing Lab Tech II will report to a Sensory and Consumer Science Director.

Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor and with other members of the staff, prepares samples, administers tests including setting up panels, performing data analysis, graphing data, recording detailed and accurate information about tests in a timely manner and follow SOP’s. 

  • Responsible for electronic file maintenance, software trouble shooting, and learning new software packages. 
  • Responsible for ordering supplies, maintaining shelf life boxes, laboratory cleanliness and organization. 
  • Responsible for recruiting panelists for sensory evaluations at various McCormick locations and conducting tests at other McCormick locations (ex. =226 Schilling Bldg). 
  • Assist with panelists training programs and maintaining lists of panelists. 
  • Participate in continuing education programs.

 

Essential Technical Qualifications:

  • High School diploma required
  • 12 College credits in the sciences or 2 years lab experience
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, writing and attention to detail skills
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and work with minimal supervision
  • Proficient with PC’s; Windows-Word, Excel
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work under tight deadlines, changing priorities and maintain confidentiality of information
  • Basic laboratory skills, food preparation skills, and excellent housekeeping skills
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Ability to perform moderate physical work over prolonged periods while standing and able to lift 50 pounds

 

Desirable Technical Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in a Food Science or related field
  • Basic knowledge of audio/visual equipment
  • Knowledge /practice of basic sensory procedures
  • Working knowledge of food systems, ingredient/processing interactions
  • Basic statistical knowledge

 

 

Work Hours

Second Shift - Tuesday through Saturday; 1:30pm to 10:00pm
