This new hire will work in the Flavors Manufacturing Center, located at 11102 McCormick Rd in Hunt Valley, MD. The Department Manager Production will report to the Operations Manager

Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Operations Manager or equivalent, provides strategic leadership for a function within a high performance plant/facility. Has overall accountability for the performance of the function and the impact on the larger operating unit. Leads team managers and/or staff to achieve exceptional business results through the development of people and continuous improvement of manufacturing and supply chain processes. Participates as an active member of the facility leadership team and ensures that strategies across functions are aligned to create common objectives for all departments and achieve plant/facility goals. Manage and develop direct reports. Requires comprehensive understanding of the concepts and principles within their own functional area and also requires basic knowledge of these elements in other relevant functional areas in order to participate in the resolution of issues that have an impact beyond the area or impact multiple areas. Responsibilities of this position include providing leadership/direction for the Departments under the general supervision of the Operations Manager. Establishes critical operational OGSM’s (objectives, goals, strategies and measures), plans for continuous improvement and creates new and innovative strategies necessary to consistently meet our customer’s expectations.

 

 

• Responsible to monitor and meet all key performance indicators for developing action plans to meet targets and provide necessary support and direction to operations areas to ensure quality, reliability, safety, sanitation, and fit for use objectives are met.

• Plan for technological, preventive maintenance and engineering improvements for operations and provide for principle based operations, improvements for cost per unit, accuracy of records and operational efficiencies.

• Assures compliance with organizational policies and procedures, and national, regional and local regulations. Actively pursues sustainability processes. Assures a safe working environment ensuring that all employees understand their role and commitment to the safe operation of the plant

• Ensures adherence to McCormick High Performance System models by providing appropriate coaching and development for 4 - 6 direct reports. Create and maintain a positive employee relations environment, ensuring utilization of a participative approach.

• Manges direction of the Utility Mechanics deployed to the departments.

• Will develop and manage departmental budget. Will measure and report performance for each business unit.

• Works collaboratively with support departments i.e., Scheduling, Quality, Engineering/Maintenance, Materials Management, Human Relations to assure that all key processes, projects, and programs are completed successfully.

BA in Bachelor of Arts/Science degree required.

Experience - functional/industry/commercial knowledge, business acumen

Demonstrated significant and relevant skills and results in functional area, including experience in a manufacturing or similar environment, knowledge and experience with plant operations and packaging equipment Minimum of 7-10 years functional/leadership experience Strong leadership experience with demonstrated success in managing multiple projects and people The job requires a detailed understanding of how all areas of the plant interact to contribute to the business. Requires a general understanding of the industry. Requires basic commercial awareness as it relates to competition but only requires limited understanding of the latest developments in the industry. Manage budgets for 1 - 3 departments and takes appropriate actions to meet budgets Has comprehensive understanding of how department level results roll up to impact both the sites results and overall division results

Interpersonal Skills - leadership, interactions, communication, influence

Strong communication and diplomacy skills are required to guide and influence others. Leadership of exempt Team Managers or equivalent to achieve common objectives. May interface with external parties as representative of the plant/facility. Strong cross-functional strategic leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. Ability to translate strategy into actionable information in small or large groups in a clear, concise, and professional manner. Ability to influence upwards. Excellent facilitation & strong ability to build relationships and high-level communication skills Negotiating with vendors, suppliers, engineering, contractors. This role has frequent contact with suppliers, vendors, and key customers for assigned areas. Strong relationships with HQ sales team, marketing, product development, finance and controller & demand planning. Production Management – provides feedback to production on problems and solutions; recommends improvements within the department. This interaction occurs on a daily basis

The Department Manager is responsible for production. Is accountable for an annual expense budget and capital expenditures ranging from 1 mm to 9 mm. Packaging and raw material and finished goods inventories for 150 million annually. The job analyses complex information in order to make judgements and decisions. The job must resolve problems by applying technical experience and expertise to review precedents, identify potential solutions and select the best and most viable course of action. The job has an impact on the business through responsibility for the volume, quality and timeliness of end results. The job has an impact on the business through joint influence over and responsibility for planning of resources and finance Regulatory requirement /quality assurance, customer requirements and safety leadership This position has impact on several business units within 1 - 3 departments Directly impacts the work and performance of all production/operations teams. Performance will also eventually impact the overall performance and effectiveness of the plant. Poor performance in any one department will have a significant impact on the overall plant performance.
