Director, Material & Process Science


McCormick & Company, Inc., a global leader in the spice, flavor, and seasonings industry, is seeking a full-time Director, Material & Process Science. This new hire will work at the Technical Innovation Center in Hunt Valley, MD. The Director, Material & Process Science will report to a VP, Science and Technology.

As a leader of team of food scientists and engineers is responsible for development and execution of technology roadmaps and research programs in line with McCormick LTP and business objectives, oversees and develops best practises, operational procedures and provides expert technical support, technical skills training and development, troubleshooting and technical transfer to all BU’s R&D teams as a lead for Global R&D Centre of Expertise. 



  • Develops and oversees execution of Company Research Program
  • Owns and oversees development of Best Practices, Standard Procedures
  • Develops and manages technical training, skills development and technical transfer programs
  • Coordinates technical trouble shooting and support for BU’s R&D’s and operating businesses
  • Manages pilot plant and pilot plant support for R&D and Operations        
  • Manages Patent Committee meetings/activities



  • A Master’s or a bachelor’s degree in Food Science or Engineering, or a closely related field or its equivalent
  • Minimum 10 years in Foods R&D, at least 5 years’ experience including leading a group of research scientists.
  • Track record of developing and managing technology development programs. Proven ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with product development, sensory science, quality assurance/regulatory and operations.
  • Intimate working knowledge of the Food and Beverage Industry.
  • Skilled in creating and communicating a compelling and inspiring narrative in the technical space.
  • Strong ability to mentor, coach and manage technical personnel and develop talent and leaders.
  • Decisive thinker, sound people judgment, ability to make the tough calls.
  • Solution and action oriented. A BIAS for ACTION!
