Engineering Director


McCormick & Company, Inc., a global leader in the spice, flavor, and seasonings industry, is seeking a full-time Engineering Director. This new hire will work at McCormick's FONA offices located in Geneva, IL in a 50/50 hybrid capacity. The Engineering Director will report to an Executive VP, Order Fulfillment.

Under the direction of the VP of Order Fulfillment, the Engineering Director   will be responsible for the overall development and implementation of programs and strategies that ensure operational excellence. The Engineering manager will lead the Engineering, Technology transfer & commercialization, and EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) teams in the conceptualization, design, and safe completion of programs, process standardization, continuous process improvement, and capital projects necessary to add or enhance process capabilities that will allow FONA to attend the near-term and long-term goals of the business.  Additionally, the Engineering Director   will work closely with the corporate project delivery group to benchmark and adopt best practices on project execution.  The Engineering Director   will ensure the mission and responsibilities of the Engineering, commercialization, and EHS teams are executed with the proper input and interaction of key functional groups within FONA (R&I, Manufacturing, Product Safety & Quality, Planning, Maintenance, Facilities, and other essential partners) under a partner-centricity focus.   The Engineering Director    will be responsible for hiring, mentoring, and developing the talent necessary to sustain the mission of the Engineering group at FONA.



  • Work with other leaders in developing a master capital plan (mid and long-term) and will facilitate the alignment, approval, and execution of such plan.   This responsibility includes the preparation of proper documentation to request Capital approval and the appropriate use of project tracking tools.
  • Identify cost reduction programs, process improvements, and engineering service requests as well as evaluation and recommendation of process improvements and automation improvements.
  • Develop and maintain a processes and methods standardization program to capture best operating practices (via SOPs) and to reduce variation in methods thereby improving the reliability, repeatability, and safety of processes.
  • Provide timely and effective assistance for 1) commercialization checks, 2) first time make productions, 3) investigations of non-conformance/non-quality cases, 4) evaluation and recommendations on raw material substitutions, and 5) ad-hoc Manufacturing expertise assistance.
  • Coach and develop the talent of the Engineering, Technical transfer & commercialization, and EHS team members.
  • Work in tight connection with site leaders and all employees in the design and execution of programs that promote a safety culture and that result in the safety of our people and the fulfillment of the environment and sustainability policy.
  • Support plant or new processes startups providing technical expertise and process team support.



  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other relevant field of study
  • At least 8-10 years of relevant production/engineering experience in the Food Industry with demonstrated ability to lead teams in the conceptualization, planning, and execution of projects and programs.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge in basic unit operations and utilities services used in the flavor manufacturing industry (emulsification, homogenization, blending, spray drying, dry blending, etc.).
  • Demonstrated success in ideation, design, and execution of small/medium (<$1MM) and large capital projects (>$1MM).
  • Excellent cross functional communication skills. Provides mentoring, coaching and leading technology and technical skills development.
  • Proficiency in the application of statistical methods.
  • Working knowledge of Process controls, automation, PLCs, CAD, and simulation tools is a plus.
