Engineering Intern- Summer 2022


McCormick & Company, Incorporated is seeking a full-time Engineering Intern in Hunt Valley, MD located at the Spice Mill Plant. This is a 10-week internship (June 2022- August 2022) which requires 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Our 10 week Summer Internship Program in Hunt Valley, MD allows college students to get a glimpse into what it's like to be a part of the McCormick family - rich in flavor, culture, and employee empowerment.

Reporting to the Continuous Improvement Manager, the Continuous Improvement Process Engineering Intern will work cross functionally in a team environment with Production, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Quality, and Engineering in the Spice Mill to improve yield and production reliability results. The incumbent will analyze the effectiveness and help lead yield, CCI, and/or  reliability improvement results of equipment, processes, process control systems, production methods, and procedures within Operations.  This is a developmental role for an individual interested in career advancement in Operations or Engineering. Training in the areas of TPM, Continuous Improvement, Reliability Engineering, and HPO Leadership will be provided.



  • Leading efforts to improve the performance of the plant in the areas of yield, CCI and process reliability
  • Integrating strategic capital into Operations, including:
    • learning the full function and operation of new equipment
    • developing training materials and supporting training activities
  • Leading and coaching Continuous Improvement teams
  • Providing technical support and assistance with troubleshooting of complex problems
  • Supporting activities that improve the performance of the plant in the areas of safety, quality, process reliability, yield and overall cost
  • Understanding and translating process capability through statistical tools and analysis and leading improvements to improve these capabilities
  • Presenting project plans and achievement to all levels of the organization
  • Leading and supporting safety initiatives to include performing risk assessments



  • Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering or in Engineering Technology
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with a target graduation date between Decemeber 2022 and June 2023
  • Experience working collaboratively in a team-based environment
  • The desire to pursue a job in manufacturing operations, continuous improvement and/or engineering
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours and days as needed to meet business demands
  • Ability to work autonomously to achieve a project goal against a deadline
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher



  • Relevant production and/or engineering experience in a manufacturing plant (co-op and internship experience will be considered)
  • Knowledge of plant operations
  • Knowledge of packaging equipment and/or processing equipment
  • Experience leading teams to achieve specific goals
  • Experience leading process reliability improvements within a manufacturing plant
  • Experience developing and writing procedures (SOP’s) with cross functional teams 
  • Experience leading and coaching process improvement and/or continuous improvement teams
  • Experience and knowledge of the food manufacturing industry
  • Experience developing justifications and cost estimates for capital projects
  • Experience developing training materials and supporting training activities
  • Experience utilizing formal troubleshooting methods on manufacturing equipment/processes
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
