This new hire will work at the Technical Innovation Center, located in Hunt Valley, MD. The Global Packaging Sustainability Manager will report to a Packaging Director.

Position Summary

The Manager of Global Packaging Sustainability will support and influence the strategic direction towards achieving the global packaging sustainability goals for the McCormick.  The role will work on the essential R&D initiatives that will equip McCormick to unlock its next wave of short-term and long-term growth in products, while delivering against our Packaging Purpose Led Performance (PLP) goals.

 

The position is a SME who responds to inquiries from customers, investors, NGOs, and other key stakeholders regarding McCormick packaging sustainability best practices, metrics and active initiatives/projects. The role will monitor the industry landscape to provide packaging sustainability trends to the global functions and business units. This position synthesizes information, trends, and data to provide informed recommendations that McCormick can seize upon. This position is a Senior Packaging role that supports regional & global packaging teams. This position requires up to 20% travel.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop global strategies to achieve McCormick PLP packaging sustainability goals. Strategies to focus on material selection and product innovation, product portfolio changes, packaging innovation, and operations.
  • Supports global strategies to deliver Scope 3 Green House Gas reduction goal across regions and business units.
  • Leads EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) task force to monitor evolving NA legislation and makes recommendations to stay abreast of new rules and regulations.

  • Monitors and evolves process for collection and reporting of worldwide packaging metrics (i.e. annual reports, Corporate Knights, Ellen MacArthur Foundation, etc.)

  • Participates on processes and systems to estimate the cost impacts of packaging sustainability goals achievement, create, and validate packaging sustainability claims.

  • Supports roadmap development/updates to facilitate communication with key stakeholders

  • Support strategies to identify key opportunities to scale product creation efforts and streamline how we create and develop products/packaging globally.

  • Actively participates in external EPR and ESGs consortiums, and organizations, to represent McCormick and support our advocacy as well as understand more about evolving regulations & legislation.

  • Position supports R&D Long Term Planning (LTP)

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Package Engineering, Packaging Design, Packaging Technology, or an alternate relevant technical discipline
  • 10-15 years’ experience leading Packaging/Sustainability in manufacturing, CPG, or other industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of best practices in the industry on Packaging/Sustainability and ESG matters, including materials knowledge and policies & standards.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills and capacity to develop and deliver presentations, including demonstrated experience in creating visually compelling decks and materials
  • Proven analytical capabilities- ability to manage large amounts of complex data against objectives
  • Familiarity with working in large matrixed organizations
  • Strong business and commercial awareness & ability to influence other business members
  • Track record for building strong working relationships with peers and executive management
  • Strong communicator with ability to negotiate with team members who may difficulty with compromising on project strategies and/or tasks.
  • Strategic Thinking- can contribute to a plan in complex difficult to understand assignments
  • Innovation- ability to recognize ideas and possible solutions from within and from outside of the company.
  • Business Savvy & Acumen minded with the experience to make fiscally sound recommendations.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Package Engineering, Packaging Design, Packaging Technology, or an alternate relevant technical discipline
