In that set of goals is Science-based Target Initiative (SBTI) validated near-term (2030) goals for Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions reductions as well as a commitment to achieve Net Zero by 2050.
As part of the Global Sustainability team, the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Manager will report to the Senior Director of Global Sustainability and work closely with the Global Purpose Led Performance (PLP) Program Director. The GHG Manager will work with a cross-functional Net Zero Task Force to develop and to drive delivery of the roadmap activities to achieve McCormick’s Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions goals in accordance with its commitments to achieve a 1.5C SBTi target by 2030 and a Net Zero target by 2050. The role will also be responsible for tracking and reporting all progress internally and externally regarding these targets. This role will serve as knowledge lead for carbon accounting methodologies.
Description:
Climate Transition Plan Project Management: Monitor and track cross-functional workstreams, objectives, and KPI’s to achieve corporate emissions reduction targets (1.5C targets to reduce by 42% by 2030 and reach Net Zero by 2050). Routinely provide progress reports for portfolio management.
Carbon Accounting & Reporting: Lead / coordinate across functions (Procurement, Supply Chain, Packaging) annual carbon footprint calculation, including, as needed, re-baselining, updating of emission factors based on life cycle assessment (LCA) data, and third-party assurance against standards (Greenhouse Gas Protocol, Science-based Target Initiative). Support Supply Chain Center of Excellence in annual footprint data collection and analysis and incorporation of any enterprise-wide data collection systems. Identify and incorporate carbon accounting best and emerging practices and updated methods.
Establish product carbon footprint processes: Set up systems and processes to understand product carbon footprints using life cycle methodologies. Map process flow diagrams, including procurement steps, operational processes, and packaging for top products. Leverage carbon accounting data and identify additional data sources to calculate product carbon footprint, using standard life cycle assessment methodologies and working closely with McCormick Centers of Excellence. Provide recommendations for scaling product carbon footprinting capabilities, including partnering with IT on strategic carbon accounting needs.
Communicating progress: Provide data to support responses to customer inquiries about MKC’s GHG emissions reduction and carbon data associated with specific supply chains and products. Liaise with appropriate data holders to provide comprehensive responses to customer requests.
Qualifications
Undergraduate or graduate degree in sciences, engineering, finance, business or relevant field
Experience - functional/industry/commercial knowledge, business acumen
• 5+ years relevant experience preferred
• Experience working with all levels of management on cross-functional projects
• Experience managing projects and applying data insights
• Experience creating collaborative solutions with external partners
• Knowledge / experience in carbon accounting, life cycle assessment methodology, carbon footprinting or similar
• Knowledge / experience in sustainability and climate goals (such as understanding of SBTi, carbon project, Renewable Energy Credits, climate science, GHG offset markets, carbon regulatory frameworks, GHG protocol, nature-based solutions) a PLUS
Interpersonal Skills - leadership, interactions, communication, influence
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English will be required to enable effective communication up down and across the organization.
