Consumer Insights Manager

This new hire will work in our Global Headquarters located at 24 Schilling Road in Hunt Valley, MD. The Innovation Insight Manager will report to a Market Research Senior Manager.

The Innovation Insight Manager will be responsible for leading consumer and market insight related activities across designated businesses within McCormick’s consumer portfolio of brands in North America. This role is expected to bring the consumer perspective to life. The individual in this role will be responsible for ensuring the voice of the consumer is heard across innovation workstreams. He/she will also be charged with influencing business partners to act upon the insight and knowledge generated by their efforts to make informed business decisions and deliver against critical business objectives.


  • Enable a culture that is anchored in deep consumer learning and understanding, and not simply about creating yes or no decisions.
  • Discover meaningful insights and uncover new business opportunities (i.e. underdeveloped categories) by staying on top of trends and mining/curating primary and secondary research to push traditional thinking.
  • Develop and execute learning plans that drive insights development and translate them into actionable pipeline development to enable McCormick’s Upstream Innovation Strategy.
  • Lead development of new product launches by leveraging qualitative and quantitative research methods to identify strong ideas and optimize product positioning and messaging.
  • Drive empathy first approaches during the early stages of initiative development including ideation by working closely with designers, scientists, and engineers.
  • Evaluate new product launches against KPIs and drive optimization opportunities for future launches
  • Identify and explore new approaches to methodologies, analyses, and reporting that can lead to more intimate consumer understanding and better business application.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Economics, Business or related discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in market research/insights/analytics, competitive intelligence, marketing strategy or other similar function with demonstrated ability to manage in a matrixed environment with multiple constituencies
  • Proven Project Management Leadership experience with demonstrated success in prioritizing and balancing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Working knowledge of business analytics and syndicated services (i.e. POS and panel applications)
  • Proficient knowledge of a variety of qualitative and quantitative consumer research methods
  • Ability to integrate and synthesize learnings from primary and secondary research into compelling insights and actionable business recommendations
  • Ability to translate complicated information into compelling deliverables that inspire action
  • Demonstrated ability to think innovatively and connecting the dots where others cannot when it comes to understanding consumer needs to create meaningful insights for the business
  • Effective consulting and interpersonal/collaboration skills
  • Excellent written, oral, presentation, and storytelling skills


  • MBA
  • Food CPG and/or Foodservice background
