DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
As a Lab Technician, the candidate will be part of a High-Performance team that largely manages its own work (self-directed). Teams are responsible for keeping production flowing, meeting performance goals, maintaining a clean/safe work environment and maintaining a high level of quality and service to their customers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Quality Team Manager, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Preparation of media for microbial testing
- Plating and reading media. Recording and maintaining accurate data
- Conducting environmental monitoring activities
- Participating in CCI teams such as Food Safety Team, Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Actions, Sanitation Validations, Internal auditing team, and TPM
- Calibrating, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment
- Performing laboratory maintenance and general cleaning
- Performing material sampling
- Conducting analytical testing of both raw and finished products
- Comparing analytical results with specifications, and making recommendations for corrective action or an alternative disposition of product
- Drive continuous improvement of processes in the lab through suggestions, improvement projects, 5S, and root cause identification tools
- Participate and achieve acceptable results in proficiency audits
- Serve as an expert in microbiological topics for the facility
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biology, and/or Microbiology
- A minimum of 1-2 years QA/QC Microbiology Lab experience, including the ability to maintain and troubleshoot lab equipment
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs)
- PC knowledge, including Word, Excel, and data entry
- Proven ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems
- Proven ability to make sound decisions based on analysis and reason
- Strong math skills, including computations, decimal/fraction conversions, and measurements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and contribute effectively as part of a team
- Flexibility to adjust to shift changes including weekends and overtime on short notice
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing practices in a very fast pace working environment
- Ability to lift 10 pounds continuously, 20 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Must have the ability to perform machine swabbing for allergen testing in accordance with established food safety protocols and regulatory requirements
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in food production
- SAP (or equivalent) experience is strongly
Base Salary: $22.52 - $33.78
Base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience for this role, and/or internal equity of our current employees as part of any final offer.
