Position Overview

 

Under the direction of the Performance Manager within the Continuous Improvement Department, the Process Engineer is responsible for the overall development, deployment, and improvement of the best-in-class standards for the Hunt Valley Plant. The key objective of this role is to reduce overall plant waste via loss analysis and project execution to improve operating methods, thereby improving overall plant reliability. The Process Engineer will work within the JTE (Journey to Excellence = Total Productive Maintenance and High Performing Organization) system to lead a team of experienced process technicians to improve upon and standardize processes and procedures for the plant. These will involve collaboration with all areas of the plant, including material processing, operations, maintenance, safety, quality, and engineering departments. This role will work hands on with the operations and supporting departments on the production floor to systematically solve problems and eliminate waste to root cause and prevent reoccurrence. This role will directly manage Process Technicians and deploy them against shifting priorities to help drive strategic initiatives at a site level.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

 

  •  Providing process support, practical problem-solving leadership, and standards development and deployment to the operations, processing, and/or support departments under the direction of the Performance Manager. Drive root cause analysis to understand true causes for sources of waste that occur ongoing within the plant, and institute effective preventative countermeasures to prevent reoccurrence.
  •  Focus on execution of systematic waste elimination initiatives, cost reduction programs, process reliability and efficiency improvements, and developing the business cases for engineering service requests and/or capital projects. Critically analyzes processes/systems/practices to identify current gaps, sources of waste and opportunities for systematic improvement. 
  •  The Process Engineer is responsible for developing and improving upon the following standards, processes, and systems for their assigned manufacturing area, and working together with the operations function to deliver a functional training plan for the manufacturing technicians in their respective area. This includes, but is not limited to: 
    • Standard Operating Procedures and Job-Aibs
    • Autonomous and Preventative Maintenance Standards (Cleaning, Inspection, Lubrication, One-Point Lessons, etc.)
    • Troubleshooting guides and process flow charts
    • Equipment centerlines matrices and visual management standards
    • Changeover execution standards and pre-work 
  •  Responsible for coaching and developing a team of Technicians to improve their skills allowing them to be more effective team members. Directly manage Process Technicians and deploy their skillsets against strategic initiatives. Teams may be formed to attack a specific defect/loss or to support a specific project/initiative. Also help to ensure uniformity across all departments. 
  •  On an as need basis - support new plant start-ups providing personal technical expertise and process team support to deliver overall training plans for the project. Is expected to be current on industry standards and latest developments. Applies best practices and ensures that they are approved and documented through site change control.

 

Qualifications: 

 

  • BS in Engineering, Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, and Industrial preferred
  • May be a new/recent graduate with relevant co-op/internship experience. production/manufacturing/engineering experience. Experience working with and collaborating amongst cross functional teams. Working knowledge of MPWS systems working knowledge of facilitative coaching and mentoring working knowledge of packaging and process engineering (packaging preferred)
  • This position requires excellent cross functional communication skills and full involvement with the HPO (High Performance Organization) system. Provides mentoring, coaching and leading technology and technical skills development. Production Management – provides feedback to Production on problems and solutions; recommends improvements within the department. Has the ability to lead, coach, develop, and manage a small team. Previous leadership experience a plus
  • Proficiency in the application of statistical and data analysis methods. The successful candidate will be very detail oriented, have strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities, demonstrated grammatical and organizational skills and must be a self-starter, who is able to work independently. Mastery in MS Office (Excel, Access, Project, PowerPoint, Word) required. Power BI, SAP, Adobe Acrobat Writer experience a plus

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

 

  • Ideally, possesses one year of relevant knowledge and experience with plant operations, packaging and processing equipment.
