Position Overview

The primary purpose of the project engineer is to develop, lead, and execute capital and expense projects in a manner that follows all process and technical standards. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Project Management: The project engineer is responsible for developing technical proposals (solutions and options) to meet customer needs. The Project Engineer develops proposals into projects by developing detail technical scopes of work, corresponding estimates and schedules to submit CAAPs as formal request for project funds, work with the operations team on development of the business case, and influence the approval process. The project engineer is responsible for all aspects of approved project execution, including detail technical design, issuing technical specifications, following standard project management techniques, managing vendors, contract engineers, and contractors for constructions, remodeling and equipment fabrication and installation. The Project Engineer is responsible for system commissioning and ramp up as well as transition to operations maintenance including documentation, training, spare parts and conducting post project review to measure results and document learnings. Throughout the process, the Project Engineer is accountable to work with McCormick stakeholders for full engagement within the McCormick High Performance Organization framework. The Project Engineer provides regular status updates and other communications to all stakeholders up and down the chain of hierarchy. This will include stakeholders internal to the plant as well as external (i.e. sales, marketing, corporate QA, packaging engineering, North American Engineering, and corporate safety). The Project Engineer will have responsibility for multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Provide technical expertise for improvement activities and facilitate dedication to prevention of defects and comprehensive continuous improvement. 
  • Provide technical expertise and assist troubleshooting for daily operations per the plant issue escalation process. 

 

Required Qualifications

  • Level of Education and Discipline
    • BS in Relevant Engineering degree (ME, ChemE, IE, EE)
  • Experience
    • Minimum 5 years engineering experience as project engineer in a manufacturing environment. Will consider a candidate with less experience if exceptional in other ways (i.e. relevant internships and academic achievements) Experience in food processing, dry or liquid packaging, pharmaceutical, or chemical process a strong plus. Shop floor/information systems experience is highly desirable. PMP certification is a plus. Requires the understanding of project justification financial process (i.e. Return on Investment, Internal Rate of Return, and Life Cycle Cost/Benefit Analysis). Project Engineer will work with others on the development of financial justification and business case documentation for project submittals. Project Engineer will be responsible for project budget management including estimate development, managing spending appropriately between capital and expense, cash flow projection, and cash flow reporting
  • Interpersonal Skills
    • Ability to relate to all plant personnel using appropriate tact and communication styles.
    • Ability to maintain good communication of project goals and methods throughout area of influence to ensure the success of all projects.
    • Ability to interact with business functions outside of a specific plant, including sales, marketing, packaging, materials engineering, and corporate functions (QA, Safety, Finance).
    • Provide technical input and leadership to influence related decision making at multiple levels of hierarchy
    • Experience with negating pricing with suppliers and contractors for bids.
  • Other Skills and HPO Competencies
    • Leadership - Experience with leading projects, improvement teams, contractors, vendors, maintenance and operations influence.
    • Mechanical Aptitude - mechanically inclined and willing to work through to a root cause.
    • Analytical Skills - Strong analytical, problem identify/solving, project management, and decision making skills.
    • Industry Specific Knowledge - Understanding of food manufacturing practices and ability to develop process improvements and solutions.
    • Engineering Knowledge - CAD, PFD, P&ID, pneumatics, hydraulics, basic controls/PLC

Base Salary: $86,390 to $151,220

Base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience for this role, and/or internal equity of our current employees as part of any final offer. This position is also eligible to participate in McCormick’s Incentive Bonus (MIB) Plan.
