McCormick & Company, Inc., a global leader in the spice, flavor, and seasonings industry, is seeking a full-time Project Engineer II. This new hire will work in the Hunt Valley Plant, located in Hunt Valley, MD. The Project Engineer II will report to a Engineering Manager.

Position Overview:

The primary purpose of the Project Engineer II is to develop, lead, and execute capital and expense projects in a manner that follows all process and technical standards.


Key Responsibilities: 


  • As the lead technical resource, the Project Engineer is responsible for execution of a portfolio of capital projects in support of the site capital plan from development through closure, using standard project management and reporting methodologies. Individual projects range from $50,000 to $3,000,000 in capital value and project objectives can include facility/equipment maintenance, capacity improvement, market growth, risk reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • The Project Engineer will manage onsite vendors and contractors as related to project deliverables and will be accountable for the safety and quality performance of these vendors.
  • The Project Engineer will participate in cross-functional continuous improvement teams to facilitate improvements to site KPIs.
  • In support of site sustainability goals, the Project Engineer will participate in initiatives in the areas of utility consumption, recyclability of waste, and implementation of Post-Consumer Recycled packaging materials.
  • The Project Engineer will be responsible for their individual development as well as informally mentoring more junior Project Engineers and maintenance staff within the department.


Required Qualifications:

  • BS in relevant Engineering degree (ME, CHemE, IE, EE).
  • Minimum 5 years engineering experience as project engineer in manufacturing environment, internships and co-ops can be considered.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings such as CAD layouts and P&IDs.
  • Strong understanding of project financials including capital versus expensive funding, and justifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets including estimates, cash flow, and overall budget management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and maintain schedules.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage fluctuating priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Shop floor/information systems experience including ERP, CMMS, and production downtime monitoring.
  • Can relate to all plant personnel using appropriate tact and communication styles.
  • Ability to provide timely, accurate communications of project status to all stakeholders, internal and external to the site.
  • Able to influence decisions across all levels of the organization.
  • Interacts regularly with vendors and contractors in all aspects of project execution (bidding, execution of work, etc.).
  • Informally leads project teams, including McCormick personnel and contractors.
  • Must be willing to be hands on in execution of project work and root cause analysis.
  • Quick decision making to drive projects to success.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Experience in food processing, dry or liquid packaging, pharmaceutical, or chemical processing.
  • Fundamental knowledge of industrial control systems including BMS, PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and servo drives.
