McCormick & Company, Incorporated is seeking a full-time Packaging Design R&D Intern Summer 2024 in the Technical Innovation Center located at 204 Wight Ave, Hunt Valley, MD. This is a 10-week internship (June 2024-August 2024) which requires 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist with daily product development activities. Includes project tracking, model building, prototype development, sample delivery, critiques of current designs, and consumer testing work.

Work directly with internal product and packaging engineering and development teams, to provide hands-on assistance and project guidance.

Collaborate with packaging engineers to ensure that designs meet functional, technical, and cost requirements.

Projects might include technology research and competitive benchmarking as well as sketching of ideas and prototype building, CAD work and 3d printing.

Cross-training with other McCormick departments according to the Intern’s interests including Sensory Science, Procurement, Product Development, as well as Marketing and Innovation teams.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Current enrollment as an undergraduate rising Junior or Senior at a 4 year accredited college/university in a relevant academic program. .

Relevant Academic programs include Product Design, Industrial Design, Package Design, 3D Design, Design for Manufacturing.

Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required.

Experience working in a laboratory or design environment preferred. 2d and 3d hands on skills are handy, drawing, sketching, rendering skills are a bonus.

Prior exposure to and/or familiarity with food packaging concepts preferred.

Good Design skills are preferred, creativity is needed, empathy for the user is key.

Ability to work independently, learn new tasks, solve problems, and show strong self-motivation and initiative.

Demonstrated organization and planning skills, handling details.

Attendance in cross functional meetings in virtual, team environments.

Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment is required.

Develop and maintain design specifications, technical drawings, and documentation for product designs.

Stay up to date on industry trends, materials, and manufacturing techniques.

Use a variety of design software and tools to create designs, including the Adobe Creative Suite, SolidWorks is preferred.

Communicate design ideas and concepts to clients, stakeholders, and team members in a clear and compelling manner. Be able to ideate freely on potential product platforms.
