Pilot Plant Technician - Hunt Valley

McCormick & Company, Inc., a global leader in the spice, flavor, and seasonings industry, is seeking a full-time Pilot Plant Technician. This new hire will work at the Technical Innovation Center located in Hunt Valley, MD. The Pilot Plant Technician will report to a Principal Engineer.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under general supervision of Scientists/Engineers perform pilot plant experiments. 
• Operate laboratory and analytical equipment to measure material properties. 
• Under general supervision of Scientists/Engineers conduct routine maintenance on pilot plant equipment. 
• Under general supervision of Scientists/Engineers set up and commission pilot plant equipment to achieve experimental results. 
• Responsible for the preparation of raw materials, finished products and retention samples.
• Manage lab inventory of raw materials, data recording, cataloguing test samples and ordering supplies.
• Maintain sanitation and lab organization.
• Ability to work independently with little or no supervision and as a member of a team.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• 3-5 years of experience working in pilot plants or manufacturing plants.  
• Experience operating, commissioning, and troubleshooting process equipment.
• Technical curiosity and desire to become an expert in pilot plant equipment. 
• Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.  Methodical execution of experimental protocols.   
• Ability to manage time, prioritize work effectively and be self-directed and motivated.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well as a team.
• Strong PC skills and experience working in Microsoft Office.  Ability to create documentation for standard operating procedures, data reporting and communications within the department
• Professional written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift 10 pounds regulary, 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience with processing equipment such as mixers, mills/particle size reducers, blenders, liquid processing, and pasteurizing.
• Experience conducting routine maintenance on process equipment or strong mechanical aptitude.    
• Experience with laboratory methods measuring physical characteristics such as particle size, density, and moisture.
• Experience in a Food manufacturing environment or laboratory and knowledge of food safety.  Awareness of GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices).
• Experience maintaining confidential information.
• Experience in the herb and spice industry
• Experience with laboratory standards and calibrations for maintaining equipment.
