Principal Scientist, Analytical Sciences

Position Overview:

This Principal Scientist, someone recognized for initiative, creativity and a proven record of contributions to the food industry, will apply advanced food science and analytical chemistry knowledge to the study of commercial and natural products. This position will collaborate with the science and business teams globally to manage short, medium, and long-term applied research projects related to flavors, foods, and beverages. This position will also employ new technologies and applications to strengthen the capabilities of organizational data science and advanced analytics.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage short, medium and long-term applied research projects within the Analytical Sciences team

  • Design and develop techniques and methods for the isolation, identification, and quantitation of flavor/aroma compounds from commercial and natural products.

  • Translate analytical data into flavor and seasoning formulas based on strong knowledge of the flavor chemistry of consumer and natural products.

  • Design new automation and machine learning tools for analytical testing and flavor formula development.

  • Maintain a wide range of instrumentation, including GC-MS, LC-MS, and GC-Olfactometry.

  • Interact frequently and independently with customers, sensory, flavorists, and applications teams to provide technical input and solutions to meet category criteria.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or PhD in Food Science, Analytical Chemistry, Natural Products or related fields
  • 10-15 years of chemistry related experience in the industrial food, pharmaceutical, chemical, cosmetic, consumer goods, and/or flavor industry.
  • Proven track record of initiating, coordinating, designing, and executing complex technical projects.
  • Strong background in consumer and/or natural products research including extraction, distillation, chromatographic isolation and separation, and chemical instrumental analysis (GC, GC-MS, HPLC, LC-MS). Proven track record in the interpretation of analytical data to support creative formula development.
  • Proven track record of solving highly technical and complex problems.
  • Contribute to the development of data analysis and visualization tools.
  • Ability to recognize opportunities to improve/automate procedures, protocols, and systems.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Food Science, Analytical Chemistry, Natural Products, or related fields
