POSITION OVERVIEW
The Electrical Controls Technician is a technical role within the Engineering Department responsible for supporting electrical, controls, and automation systems across manufacturing, packaging, processing, utilities, and facility equipment. This position provides hands-on technical support for troubleshooting, maintaining, improving, and implementing electrical control systems that support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. The technician serves as a key technical resource for control systems, electrical troubleshooting, automation support, and equipment improvement initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical support for electrical and control systems used in manufacturing, packaging, processing, utility, and facility operations.
- Troubleshoot electrical circuits, control systems, motor controls, sensors, instrumentation, safety devices, robotics, and automation equipment.
- Use electrical drawings, PLC logic, HMI screens, equipment manuals, and diagnostic tools to identify and resolve equipment issues.
- Support Engineering and Maintenance in diagnosing recurring failures and developing long-term corrective actions.
- Assist in restoring equipment to safe and reliable operation while minimizing production disruption.
- Create and/or maintain technical documentation and electrical drawings for systems.
- Ensure PLC, HMI, electric drawings and control system changes are documented, backed up and communicated in accordance with site procedures.
- Upgrade/replace machines or machine subsystems that are obsolete.
- Provide technical support during new equipment installations and startups.
- Provide technical training for the Electrical Electronics Technician’s in the maintenance team as needed.
- Provide technical solutions that support continuous improvement projects.
- Participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving activities for recurring downtime or process issues.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical degree, apprenticeship or equivalent experience in electrical, controls or automation preferred.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical and control systems in a manufacturing, industrial, food manufacturing, packaging, or process environment.
- Ability to use electrical diagnostic tools such as a multimeter, megger, process meter, amp meter, and other test equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, control schematics, PLC logic (LD, FBD, ST, IL, SFC), manuals, and technical documentation.
- Ability to troubleshoot, replace and commission variable frequency and servo drives.
- Ability to troubleshoot and make modifications to FactoryTalk View ME HMI applications.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, organization, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with Maintenance, Operations, Quality, and Safety teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work in small cross-functional groups, deliver effective communication, meet deadlines, and lead quality/process improvement teams.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficient with AutoCAD to make electrical drawing modifications.
- Proficient in the support of Allen Bradley & Siemens PLCs, Cognex vision systems and FANUC robots.
- Ability to troubleshoot WonderWare, B&R and Beckhoff systems preferred.

- Follow all site safety rules, lockout/tagout procedures and electrical safe work practices.
- Apply NFPA 70E requirements when performing or supporting electrical work.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practice (GMPs), food safety requirements and site quality procedures.
- Report safety, quality, food safety and equipment concerns promptly.

Base Salary: $33.32 - $49.97
Base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience for this role, and/or internal equity of our current employees as part of any final offer. This position is also eligible to participate in McCormick’s Incentive Bonus (MIB) Plan.
