Process Systems Technician, Materials and Process Technology

This new hire will work at the Technical Innovation Center, located in Hunt Valley, MD. The Process Systems Technician will report to a Principal Engineer.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct maintenance and troubleshooting on pilot plant equipment and laboratory instruments.
  • Conduct pilot plant instrumentation and controls projects. 
  • Under general supervision of engineers work with electrical contractors and instrument vendors to complete projects. 
  • Conduct fabrication projects for custom research equipment in partnership with engineers.  
  • Under general supervision of Scientists/Engineers conduct pilot plant and laboratory experiments.
  • Responsible for the preparation / set-up of raw materials, finished products and retention samples.
  • Manage lab inventory of raw materials, data recording, cataloging test samples and ordering supplies.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision and as a member of a team.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Minimum 10 years experience working as a controls or maintenance technician. 
  • Ability to read electrical wiring diagrams
  • Ability to install sensors and instruments to control panels. 
  • Knowledge of data recording devices and serial to 4-20 mA conversions. 
  • Experience working with motors, VFDs, thermocouples, power meters, pumps.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.
  • Experience working in a laboratory, pilot plant or in manufacturing operations. 
  • Technical curiosity.  Desire to innovate and build new things. 
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize work effectively and be self-directed and motivated.
  • Ability to create documentation for standard operating procedures, data reporting and communications within the department

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree in electronic technology
  • 2-3 years of experience working in pilot plants and/or laboratories.
  • Experience conducting research experiments under the direction of scientists and engineers.
  • Experience with pilot plant equipment such as mixers, grinding/milling, extraction, and pasteurizing.
  • Experience with lab operations measuring physical characteristics such as particle size, density, and moisture.
  • Experience with laboratory standards and calibrations for maintaining equipment.
