Quality Engineer Associate - Spice Mill

Under the direction of the Quality Manager, the Quality Engineer Associate is responsible for leading the overall development and maintenance of documentation that captures best operating practices in the plant. The key objective of this role is to develop and maintain quality processes to reduce variation in operating methods thereby improving the reliability and repeatability of processes and eliminating defects.  The Associate Quality Engineer will join the Quality Assurance leadership team to drive a preventative quality culture through data driven activities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the management, disposition and system improvements for Out of Specification, defective Materials (Raw, WIP, and Finished goods), and complaints using TPM process (e.g., FMEA, QC Matrix, SPC, 5 Why, 12 Step, DMAIC, Risk Assessments, etc.) to support the RCCA program.
  • Provides Quality Technical Leadership for start-up of process, equipment design and formulation.
  • Critically analyzes processes, systems and practices to identify current gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Drive manufacturing process capability improvements through variation reduction, error-proofing, and implementation of statistics. This include collecting and analyzing data to identify and prioritize opportunities for improvement of product and process quality.
  • Implement quality best practices and McCormick Quality Standards.
  • Conduct Internal Audits and participate in external audits.
  • Execution to plant’s change management and RCA programs.
  • Develop capabilities of Operation, Warehouse and QA Teams in relationships to understanding and implementation of quality standards and best practices.
  • Performs Daily Maintenance of Quality Programs (e.g. operational procedure review / update, Inspection Plans)



  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline, with Chemistry, Food Science, Chemical Engingeering or related technical fields preferred. Relevant McCormick experience in a technical management field while in pursuit of a degree could also be considered 
  • Certification focused on Quality and Food Safety for Supply Chain: PCQI (or HACCP based on region), Auditing proficiencies through training or certification (i.e. ASQ, CFSQA), GFSI scheme (i.e. SQF, BRC) management experience 
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • 2+ years experience leading cross functional team required.
  • Must be able to professionally relate to key vendors, HQ, and Operations to developing partnerships, gaining agreement on performance expectations and influence change.
  • Must be able to understand and  and interpret capability studies. Must be able to understand and execute design of experiments. (DOE)

  • Excellent verbal and written skills. 
  • Medium to excellent Microsoft suite skills.
  • Ability to work independently and have flexible work hours.
  • Adaptability – open to and actively solicit new ideas and opinions.
