Quality Engineer II - Hunt Valley Plant

POSITION OVERVIEW

Under the direction of the Quality Manager, the Quality Engineer II is responsible for the overall development and maintenance of programs to address quality defects and enhance first pass quality in operations. The key objective of this role is to reduce variation in operating methods thereby improving the reliability, repeatability of processes and eliminate defects. The Quality Engineer II will manage the Quality RCCA process, including internal and external complaint investigations. Quality Engineer II will have plant Quality Engineer I and Associate Quality Engineer direct reports and be responsible for setting direction, coaching and developing these reports.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the management, disposition and system improvements for Out of Specification, defective Materials (Raw, WIP, and Finished goods), and complaints using TPM process (e.g., FMEA, QC Matrix, SPC, 5 Why, 12 Step, DMAIC, Risk Assessments, etc.)
  • Quality Technical Lead for start-up of process, equipment design and formulas
  • Quality Technical Lead for start-up of process, equipment design and formulas product and process quality.
  • Implement quality best practices and McCormick Quality Standards
  • Conduct Internal Audits and participate in external audits
  • Develop capabilities of Operation, Warehouse and QA Teams in relationships to understanding and implementation of quality standards and best practices
  • Daily Maintenance of Quality Programs (e.g., Infinity, Print Systems, checkweighers, operational procedure review / update)
  • TEAM MANAGEMENT: Leads a team in a specific functional area in a manner consistent with the core beliefs and guiding principles of McCormick's High-Performance System. Utilizes coaching and facilitation skills to manage employee relations. Provides regular performance feedback and oversees development/training plans for individuals within the team. Develop performance metrics for directs. Actively uses performance and development tools to document and facilitate improvement/recognition discussions. Rewards and recognizes performance achievements. Removes barriers that prevent the team from achieving goals

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS Technical - Quality/Engineering/Research/Product Development
  • 7 years Manufacturing Quality Experience required
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Project Management Experience Required
  • Leading cross functional team required.
  • Must be able to professionally relate to key vendors, HQ, and Operations to developing partnerships, gaining agreement on performance expectations and influence change.
  • Must be able to create and interpret capability studies Must be able to create and execute design of experiments. (DOE)
  • Ability to develop, interpret and apply statistical and focus improvement tools for process improvements (SPC, Capability studies, FMEA, DOE, etc.).
  • Excellent organizational skills to be able to handle multiple projects and activities to ensure on time completion.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills. Medium to excellent Microsoft suite skills.
  • Ability to work independently and have flexible work hour. Adaptability – open to and actively solicit new ideas and opinions.
  • Influence & Positive Impact – skilled at persuading, motivating, and energizing others at all levels. Passionate, personable, self-confident, and likeable.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience as a HACCP Manager, SQF Practioner, ASQ Auditor, Quality Engineer or Quality Manager
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • TPM Quality Maintenance Experience preferably in a food or pharmaceutical industry preferred.
