This new hire will work at the Technical Innovation Center, located in Hunt Valley, MD. The Scientist II, Sensory will report to a Sensory and Consumer Science Director.

Position Overview

Responsibilities of this position include conducting all aspects of sensory testing in order to provide product insights to both our internal and external customers. Organizes, designs, conducts, reports on, and interprets sensory evaluations which consist of analyses of taste, odor, appearance and texture of food products using experienced trained panelists. Instructs other personnel in sensory evaluation techniques. Responsible for the timely and successful projects and reports. Responsible for staying current with literature and information about sensory and consumer research.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Organizes, designs, conducts, reports on, and interprets sensory evaluations which consist of analyses of taste, odor, appearance and texture of food products using experienced trained panelists.
  • Organizes, designs, conducts, reports on, and interprets sensory evaluations due to consumers and/or untrained panelists to support technical team initiated projects
  • Attend business related meetings for assigned teams.
  • Manage a group of long term contractors for project sensory research
  • Instructs other personnel in sensory evaluation techniques
  • Responsible for staying current with literature and information about sensory evaluation

 

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Food Science / Nutrition / Sensory / Other Science
  • MS Degree in Sensory Science, Food Science, Statistics, Psychology or another related field with minimum 3 years of Sensory Science project work experience OR BS in related discipline with minimum 6 years of project work experience in Sensory and Consumer Research. 
  • Practical knowledge of sensory methodologies and their applications
  • Must be able to communicate both verbally and written extremely well.
  • Communicates regularly with associate Sensory Scientists to ensure use of sensory resources and consistent use of methods. 
  • Organizational Skills -Critical to plan and organize sensory tests
  • Excellent eadership skills to manage projects and be sensory contact for internal /external customers
  • Excellent Technical Writer

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Food Science / Nutrition / Sensory / Other Science
