Senior Manager, Transportation Strategy

The Senior Manager, Transportation Strategy will report to a Director of Transportation. The position will be based at McCormick's global headquarters in Hunt Valley, Maryland and will be eligible to participate in our hybrid work program (50% onsite and 50% remote per month).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop carrier management strategy, including route guide compliance and carrier service/reliability/quality, addressing performance gaps and ensuring timely corrective actions or re-sourcing occurs. This includes development of formal Quarterly Business Reviews, reflecting frequency appropriate to carrier-specific strategy, and the development of a transportation strategic partnership programs to nurture long-term business relationships with carriers of all modes. 
  • Responsible for all aspects of freight procurement including market pulse monitoring, rate benchmarking, conducting periodic network-wide and ad-hoc RFPs, negotiating freight costs with carriers, selecting carriers, and developing the routing guide. Develops strategies to ensure adequate transportation capacity exists for meeting surge.
  • Develop and manage a fuel management program including fuel contracting, fuel price benchmarking/ auditing, hedging, and fleet fuel efficiency control.
  • Develop transportation-related 3PL/4PL strategy in conjunction with transportation operations. Leads the selection, contracting and performance management, including but not limited to outsourced transportation planning, fuel benchmarking, and billing and payment services.
  • Responsible for financial planning and budgeting process for transportation costs. Collaborates with finance to provides timely updates to cost projections and ensure processes are in place to forecast freight expenses.
  • Lead large scale projects impacting the transportation.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Supply Chain, Logistics, Transportation, or other related field of study
  • 8+ years of experience in supply chain management, transportation, purchasing, materials management, or finance
  • Prior experience in transportation procurement, planning, or finance preferred
  • Ability to identify, communicate, and implement continuous improvement opportunities
  • Ability to lead medium to large cross-functional projects related to respective planning region
  • CPM or APICS certified
