**Candidates will be considered for the levels of Scientist II, Sr. Scientist, or Principal Scientist depending on relevant skillset and experience level.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Product Development Scientist will support strategic Food Away from Home (custom restaurant and branded food service) customers through development of seasonings, marinades, and coatings to meet specific sensory and functional attributes. Reporting to the Vice President, the Scientist will be part of a highly creative and collaborative product development team with a strong emphasis of customer partnership. The Scientist will also interact with other functional areas such as culinary, sensory, marketing, corporate chemistry, microbiology, regulatory, packaging, procurement, supply chain, pricing, commercialization, operations and quality assurance to meet and maintain all finished product design requirements. The Scientist will leverage McCormick’s world class innovation and corporate technical resources to drive consumer preferred solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide creative seasoning, marinade, and coating custom product development support for customers to include building and sustaining relationships within the core customer development teams
- Guide technical excellence and differentiation through robust product design, leveraging technology and implementing feedback from internal and external resources in an ever-changing environment
- Create market-preferred finished products through bench top product development, leveraging culinary input, technical innovation and consumer insights.
- Guide customer requests by interacting with a broad multifunctional team to provide best in class solutions
- Conducting commercialization and product improvement plant trials at McCormick locations
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL THREE LEVELS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Food Science/Technology, Food Engineering, Chemistry or a related field
- Experience with poultry/meat processing via marinade, seasoning, and coating formulations
- Plant experiences within dry and wet facilities
- Strong understanding of consumer and general sensory testing, including its application to product development
- An in-depth understanding of ingredients and technology along with their impact on product taste and functionality
- Experience collecting and interpreting scientific data, including sensory, analytical, and commercialization
- Proven ability to interpret scientific data, including sensory and analytical, and commercialization
- Experience effectively collaborating across levels and functions within own organization and with outside customers and vendors
- Ability and willingness to travel 20% to 30%
- Proven success multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
- High degree of ownership and professional commitment
- Desire and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with external and internal customers

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR SCIENTIST II:
- Minimum 5 years of product development experience in the food industry with a major food company or food ingredient company
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR SENIOR SCIENTIST:
- Minimum 10 years of product development experience in the food industry with a major food company or food ingredient company.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR PRINCIPAL SCIENTIST:
- Minimum 15 years of product development experience in the food industry with a major food company or food ingredient company.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL THREE LEVELS:
- MS Degree and/or PhD in a related field
- Experience with SAP, product formulary and retrieval systems and Microsoft software
- Culinary interest or related training
- Proficiency in vendor management and development including the implementation of new ingredients as required
- Proven record of solving complex technical challenges to deliver both market preferred flavors with excellent functionality
