Scientist II, Packaging Development - Hunt Valley, MD

This new hire will work at the Technical Innovation Center, located in Hunt Valley, MD. The Scientist II will report to a Senior Packaging Development Manager.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This Scientist II role is responsible for supporting the Base Business which is comprised of projects across our Consumer, Food Service and Flavor Solutions business segments.  Projects extend across Branded Line Extensions, Sustainability, Private Brands, and Supply Chain support inclusive of business continuity plans, and operational changes in plant capabilities and equipment.

 

This role is responsible for packaging efforts that include selection of materials, determination of performance requirements, setting quality standards, creating packaging specifications and coordinating activities with a range of business partners from Procurement to Operations.  This role requires a combination of technical and business knowledge, project management and cross-functional team operation.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Projects are low-to-mid-range in scope and complexity and require knowledge in the areas of plastic & glass bottles, plastic closures, flexible containers as well as experience with consumer products, manufacturing operations and distribution.  This role includes:

  • Interacts with all levels of management, works cross-functionally, participates in project planning activities, and provides technical guidance in adjacent areas.
  • Provides package design, development, material selection and commercialization services which includes conducting appropriate validation testing to confirm performance and creating comprehensive specifications
  • Accountable for deliverables & project milestones.
  • Plans and prioritizes work, insuring deadlines & customer expectations are met. 
  • Enforces established standards, controls and processes.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Package Engineering, Packaging Technology or an alternate relevant technical discipline
  • Minimum of 4 years of packaging development and project management experience as part of a cross functional team within the Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPG) industry
  • Experience with plastics (blow molding & injection molding), laminates, corrugated & labels
  • Attention to detail, math and analytical skills, problem-solving skills
  • Solid communication & interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects at a time
