We are looking to hire a Scientist - Packaging immediately in a Hybrid (50/50) capacity at our Global Headquarters in Hunt Valley, Maryland.

Title: Scientist - Packaging

 

Location: McCormick & Company, Inc., 24 Schilling Road, Suite 1, Hunt Valley, MD 21031

 

Duties: Work with all levels of company management to coordinate their input and to plan and organize food packaging design and development projects of moderate scope and complexity that align with McCormick’s objectives as to consumer acceptance in multiple markets, plant performance, product cost, and timing. Apply advanced knowledge of food science, packaging materials science and their chemical interactions to design new packaging. Monitor production plant trials and perform re-design or alterations to meet McCormick standards. Write technical specifications for final design of packaging materials and updates to Bill of Materials in SAP. Assume a pivotal role in shaping the future of sustainable, consumer-preferred packaging solutions in North America. Work with a diverse array of formats and materials, contributing to some of our most beloved brands including McCormick, Old Bay, Lawry’s, Grill Mates, and Gourmet Garden. Work with a Packaging Innovation and Base Business team, where creativity, problem-solving, and technical expertise come together to redefine the packaging landscape.

 

Requirements: Bachelors’ degree in Chemical Engineering, Food Science, Logistics, Packing Science, Engineering or related field, or foreign degree equivalent, and 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or related occupation in food industry packaging and development, or any suitable combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Experience must include:

 

  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise regarding advanced chemistry and its impact/applicability in the design and production of food packaging.
  • 5 Years’ Experience with packing design, assessment, and implementation.
  • 5 years’ Experience in the control and management methods for quality and continuous improvement.
  • 5 years’ Experience with packaging material production processes and technical properties.
  • 5 years’ Experience in packaging sustainability and circular economy; printing processes and graphic arts for food packaging; food safety and food fraud for packaging; and the definition and development of packaging material technical specifications.
  • 5 Years’ Experience applying standards of HACCP, GMP, and Risk Assessment.
  • Demonstrated analytical skillset and experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working in a team environment; demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment in high pressure, sensitive situations; ability to handle conflict in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated PC skills with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation software, Auto CAD and CAPE (Palletization Software).
  • Up to 10% US domestic travel may be required.

 

Salary: $130,915-131,165/year + standard benefits; Hours:  Full Time, 40 hours/week
