Senior Director, Category & Revenue Management

The Senior Director, Category & Revenue Management will report to the Group VP Sales - North America. This role will be based at McCormick's global headquarters in Hunt Valley, Maryland and will be eligible to participate in our hybrid work program (50% onsite and 50% remote).

Position Overview:

The successful candidate will be the primary leader for all sales related analytics and insight activities for the US Consumer businesses.  This individual is accountable for the overall mobilization of our annual business planning process leveraging category insights to develop tactical plans around distribution, shelving, price, and merchandising.  This role is a critical strategic influencer both internally and externally (Corporate, Marketing, Sales, Broker and Customers), This includes developing price pocket management and the associated price strategies and their impact on any retail price and trade spending.  This person will take ownership of building out a suite of tools, insights, and technology capabilities across the function which instill category leadership for all our brands.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Representing McCormick Category Management at a senior and /or Global level internally and externally to enhance McCormick’s reputation as the category leader and engaging in Top-to-Top external customer negotiations and joint business planning relationships to obtain category captaincies / advisors at key customers that increase our level of influence at point of sale.  
  • Develop the long-term Category Management growth, vision and strategy across the US Consumer Products Division product portfolio that delivers profitable growth for McCormick and customers.
  • Lead the development of trade optimization tools & insights across the US business.  Requires significant partnership with Marketing, Finance and Trade Marketing to develop thoughtful plans that are viable for the company & our customers (all channels)
  • Provides analytics, insights and action plans for list pricing as well as price pocket & price gap strategies for our brands relative to category performance.  
  • Identify, address, and build through development and coaching of professional staff, delivering 0-5 years succession plan for US-CPD Category Management Team.
  • Provide strategic insight, thought leadership and alignment with Field Sales, Sales VP & Marketing VP to develop regional and customer specific category building plans.  Build and strengthen the relationship with Customer Insights in order to establish joint partnership on short- and long-term insight activation strategies.
  • Lead by example and improve the Category Management and Revenue Management team’s ability to consultatively provide category expertise by maintaining up-to-date fluency with category, consumer, pricing, trade spending and retail trends and best practices.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Management, Finance or related field required.  MBA preferred.
  • 15+ years Category Management, Revenue Management, Field Sales, Trade Marketing or other experience required. 
  • 5+ years proven success in executive-level customer/consumer sales in CPG required, grocery preferred. 
  • Strong strategic management and planning skills with demonstrated success in significantly contributing to strategic plan of function required.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated success in development of succession planning of professional staff required.
  • Excellent collaboration, negotiating, influencing and leadership skills required.
  • Demonstrated success in significantly contributing to strategic plan of function required.
  • Must be self-motivated with a demonstrated skill in leading, developing and motivating geographically dispersed and diverse teams to achieve high-level performance through processes, tools and best practices.
  • Must be financially savvy and have managed a P&L
