We are looking to hire a Senior Director, Global Procurement to join the corporate procurement team based at our Global Headquarters in Hunt Valley, Maryland. The position is hybrid eligible (50% onsite per month).

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Senior Director, Global Procurement will inspire and develop a team of globally dispersed strategic sourcing professionals to grow into leaders and technical experts in their field. As a visionary business leader, this role leads development of Direct Category strategies across Ingredients, Packaging and External Manufacturing. This role will focus on maximizing value for McCormick, optimizing and protecting the supply chain, ensuring a responsible, sustainable, and continuous supply of materials and leveraging external capabilities. This leader must partner with business and function leads around the world to develop and execute global and regional strategies targeted at ensuring an ongoing competitive position for McCormick. The role is responsible for over $1.5B of spend supporting overall company sales of over $7B.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Category Management

  • Responsible for Category Management activities across the global enterprise for Ingredients, Packaging and External Manufacturing. This includes sustainable strategy development and implementation, common process definition and deployment, leadership and delivery to support the company’s business objectives, and financial operating plan. Organize and develop global sourcing strategies in line with global and business unit objectives to increase company-wide scale, savings, margin expansion, growth, and cash flow opportunities. Lead by example in the utilization of e-Sourcing and Analytics.

Supplier Management

  • Be the face of the business to the supplier base and manage critical relationships with this stakeholder group. Create additional business value through structured supplier relationship management with key suppliers and ensure McCormick is a Customer of Choice. Develop partnerships to gain insights into market and commodity trends critical to predict the performance of Procurement.

Budget/Market/Risk Analysis

  • Manages and participate in the planning and forecasting process to establish the Long Term Plan, standard costs and forecasting price variances globally and at Division level. Lead the development of business plans, which have specific value and deliverables to support business needs for McCormick and each Business Unit. Drive diagnostic and benchmarking activities to determine opportunities for leverage and cost savings. Responsible for market analysis, feedstock/input cost forecasting, and cost modeling. Identify and manage initiatives to reduce/contain risk to the Company through defined processes and resulting measures.

Organization

  • Manage a team of senior direct reports, with procurement professionals deployed in every region of the organization within an organization model that includes both direct and matrix reporting. Manages personnel and recruitment activity to promote an efficient operation as well as assuring a high level of motivation and morale. Getting people and talent management systems right is of paramount importance and do it on an international scale to bring the global scope of the company to life.

Business Engagement

  • Partner with Commercial/Business Unit leadership to align strategies, provide meaningful supply/market insights to drive margin improvement, and support external customer intimacy strategies. Provide service excellence to business through establishing effective relationships, partnerships, strategies, processes, and systems. Collaborate effectively with members of the global management team to ensure Procurement strategy is aligned to the functional requirements. Build effective working relationships with Supply Chain, R&D, and Quality leadership to deliver cost and quality improvements and to deliver superior supplier selection for new product innovation.

Innovation & Growth

  • Partner with Commercial, Marketing and R&D teams to deliver competitive, technically insulated new products and supplier enabled innovation. Support due diligence and integration of acquisitions as required and ensure Procurement competitive advantage to support acquisition strategy and deliver against synergy expectations.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance, Science or applicable field of study 
  • 15+ years continued growth and career progression within relevant food/consumer packaged goods company
  • 10+ years in Direct Procurement and Category leadership roles
  • Experience establishing and implementing complex sourcing strategies with best-in-class Category Management techniques across multiple categories, including food ingredients and agricultural commodities
  • Experience leading global teams and driving year over year profit improvement across Global spend categories
  • Good understanding of end to end supply management processes, product/service knowledge
  • Record of systematic and analytical approaches towards situation analysis evaluation and the development of specific programs that maintain perspective on long-term goals while attaining short-term objectives
  • Proven track record of meeting project objectives by successfully managing, tracking, and implementing successful strategies in regards to scope, quality, time, and cost
  • 7+ years project management, execution of large, multiple or cross-functional projects
  • 5+ years proven business partner engagement and delivery
  • Ability to motivate and develop a large, international team along with demonstrated ability to build a high performance organization through people, process, and culture.
  • Extensive experience driving Procurement Category Strategies that lead transformation and change management initiatives that enable profitable growth.
  • Expertise across a broad spectrum of categories (Ingredients, Packaging, External Manufacturing) with in-depth knowledge of sourcing global agricultural commodities/ingredients and a technical understanding of hedging, supply/demand, and commodity markets and associated strategies
  • Broader experience across other supply chain functions and the ability to partner/ influence key business partners and cross functional leaders
  • Works well under aggressive deadlines with significant dollar impact
  • Broad knowledge of legal and contracting issues and ramifications
  • Experience with risk management
  • Strong communication and diplomacy skills are required to guide, influence and convince others. In particular colleagues, stakeholders in other areas/depts.. and external customers/agencies

 

Base Salary: $166,360-299,450

Base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience for this role, and/or internal equity of our current employees as part of any final offer. This position is also eligible to participate in McCormick’s Incentive Bonus (MIB) Plan/ McCormick’s Sales Incentive Bonus (SIB) Plan/ McCormick’s Dividend Program.
