Senior Flavor Scientist, R&D Product Development

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Senior Flavor Scientist is responsible for scale up and full commercialization of new flavor launches, overseeing all activities related to a successful flavor transition from the bench to the first time production.  This position provides technical support and guidance to cross functions related to flavor commercialization of compound liquid, spray dry, reaction, and other extrusion encapsulation products.  This position manages several key people in the flavor department.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages first flavor production activities, processes, and documents
  • Manages 2 people responsible for overseeing first time production runs and spray dry pilot activities
  • Reviews and prepares flavors for every first time flavor production
  • Participates in formula transfer activities between flavor plants
  • Attends all first time production related meetings, commercialization meetings, and is a co-lead for many
  • Interfaces with many cross functions such as flavorists, Quality, Regulatory, Operations, Material Management, Supply Chain, Finance, and Procurement regularly and offers guidance, options, and recommendations.
  • Participates and often leads in formula trouble shooting, root cause analysis reviews, optimization, cost savings, cost avoidance discussions, offering options and recommendations.
  • Often provides support to the flavor team when manufacturing processes are in question, assessing formula design risks and options, and serves as a liaison between product development, operations’ engineers, and quality teams.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, Chemistry, or related science field.
  • 10 years of experience in Food/flavor Manufacture or flavor/seasoning development field
  • Excel, production systems, formulation systems, data management databases
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Demonstrate people management and development skills
  • Demonstrate problem solving skills, critical thinking, and quick decision-making skills
  • Proven self-starter and proven intellectual curiosity
  • A high degree of ownership and professional commitment

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Understand and interpret production master recipes, formulations, flavor raw materials
  • Worked with SAP and DevEX
