The Senior Manager, Packaging Graphic Design & Production will report to the VP, Global Creative, Brands & Categories. This new hire will work at McCormick's global headquarters in Hunt Valley, MD and will be eligible to participate in McCormick's hybrid work program (50% onsite and 50% remote per month).

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Senior Manager, Packaging Graphic Design & Production is responsible for working collaboratively with business leads, consumer insight and commercialization to lead packaging graphic design projects for new product launches & packaging changes. This position is also responsible for managing the in-house design team for North America, managing the in-house graphics production team, and managing relationships with external design and pre-production agencies.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads all strategic and tactical packaging graphic design projects for North America for all brands end to end (from design briefing to pre-production approval and files in the printing facility)
  • Leads a team of in-house designers as well as a team of in-house graphic production project managers (team of 7+)
  • Acts as a brand steward to deliver on brand designs and final labels/packages, while achieving business objectives
  • Provides strategic and tactical coordination with design agencies and design consultants. Including, but not limited to briefing, getting proposals, quotes, cost negotiation and scope of work approvals and feedback
  • Partners with brand team to create design briefs to ensure design meets the business objectives
  • Recommend, influence and manage internal approvals from business leads to upper management
  • Creates and manages Graphics annual budget for USA and CAN and quarterly reforecasts. Requests annual Graphic CAAPs for USA and CAN. Approves all Pos.
  • Participates in cross-functional projects as the packaging design expert. Including, but not limited to branding work, consumer insights, innovation initiatives, etc.
  • Attracts top talent, manages and develop direct reports. Ensures succession plan for Graphic production manager.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or other relevant discipline 
  • 8+ years' graphic design and print production experience
  • 5+ years leading teams of designers and graphic production specialists
  • 3+ Demonstrated relevant skills and results in graphic design for consumer packaged goods industry
  • Experience formulating recommendations based on consumer research
  • Able to be excellent at strategic thinking while being action oriented
  • Has an entrepreneurial spirit: optimistic, natural owner, proactive, able to adapt and create new processes, empirically creative, ability to manage multiple projects
  • Effective influencer to upper management and peers
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication (clear and concise), able to interact with multiple personalities and multiple cultures
  • Able to manage multiple projects
  • Attention to detail, highly organized and excellent follow through
  • Proficiency in Adobe CC Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign
