Strategic Sourcing Data Scientist

This new hire will work in the Global Headquarters, located in Hunt Valley, MD. The Strategic Sourcing Data Scientist will report to a Procurement Director.

POSITION OVERVIEW

To provide the business and procurement with data insights that will help increase revenue and/or lower costs. Provide technical leadership and focus on generating insights for business customers. Influence the procurement organization and the broader business through robust data analysis and modeling. Function as a procurement category manager’s co-pilot in developing winning sourcing strategies.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design solutions and manage and structure data in a sustainable way, eradicating gaps that delivers significant value for the organization, and aligns to the Analytics Strategic roadmap
  • Perform data mining and analytics, interpreting and reporting of large integrated data sets built with structured and unstructured data. Able to derive meaningful and value add insights for the business and procurement team
  • Develop tools to leverage new proprietary data sources and deploy in the areas of modelling end to end supply scenarios. S&D, Trends, Risk, Weather, Indices, Prices, FX to support of the Procurement Organization (Management and Buyers) with Category Management decision making
  •  Seek out industry best practice and skills development to create new capabilities for data analytics at McCormick to drive procurement group and organization
  • Drives implementation and automation of Key Scorecards and Business reporting, analysis and insights
  • Collaborate with buyers to gain a deep understanding of procurement categories to anticipate questions and drive actionable insights.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS Engineering, Supply Chain, Computer Science, Business, Economics, or Meteorology
  • 3+ years of Analytics experience with knowledge of procurement and/or supply chain.Candidate should have extensive experience analyzing complex datasets and generating insights.
  • Familiar with creating reports using BI tools e.g. SAP Hana, Tableau, Ariba Analysis. Expertise in MS-Office, SQL and eSourcing skills useful.
  • Comfortable working with structured and unstructured data.
  • Strong business perspective; able to merge business questions/needs with available data to provide data-driven insightsKnowledge of simulation software to enable procurement and supply chain analysis
  • Strong knowledge of modeling tools and methods to enable diagnostics and predictive analytics
  • Able to influence and navigate across multiple functions (Procurement, Supply Chain, IT, Marketing, Sales, R&D, etc.) to leverage enterprise data seamlessly for insights that can be leveraged across the business.
  • Strong communication and influence skills a
  • Able to make sound timely decisions grounded in data but also intuition; well developed emotional intelligence.
  • Understands analytics impact on bottom line performance.
  • Solid grasp of programming languages including modelling software.
  • Understands supply and demand and its impact on price.
  • Understands the latest developments in the industry.
  • Ability to communicate complex information to internal audiences

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience building robust statistical models
