We are looking to hire a Tax Director to join our corporate team at our global headquarters in Hunt Valley, Maryland. The role is eligible to participate in our hybrid work program (50% onsite per month).

POSITION OVERVIEW:
This position is responsible for all state and local tax planning, compliance, audit activity and income tax accounting related to state and local taxes. This includes understanding McCormick's business operations as they impact state and local income and non-income tax planning, compliance, tax audits, financial reporting, and nexus. This position manages 2 direct reports.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and implement end to end processes for state and local taxes that optimize McCormick’s state income tax planning and ensure sustainable, timely, accurate, and complete compliance. Manage and final review of all state compliance filings including income tax, sales & use tax, property tax and related tax licenses and miscellaneous filings.
- Represent, manage, and defend all state and local tax audits including nexus, income tax compliance, sales & use tax compliance and property tax.
- Manage and final review of quarterly state tax estimates and extension requests.
- Manage preparation and review of quarterly state income tax forecasts, budgets and annual provision including reconciling state liability account and any associated reclasses as well as assisting with analysis and updates of state deferred taxes as required.
- Develop and maintain effective internal relationships with Global Tax Team and wider McCormick organization including Plant Managers, P2P, Payroll and other key company personnel related to state and local tax issues.
- Develop and implement tax saving and planning ideas to improve CCI initiatives.
- Review and approve quarterly and annual nexus documentation prepared by the State Tax Manager. Manage state tax reserves related to nexus exposures if required. Maintain communication throughout the company related to decisions that could impact nexus.
- Develop and implement tax policies and procedures, staying abreast of changes in state and local tax laws.
- Review and analyze proposed company transactions and tax legislative proposals for implications to the company. Research state and local tax laws pertaining to a multitude of income tax and sales tax issues related to and future mergers and acquisitions, dissolutions or sales of subsidiaries.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting or a related course of study
- CPA required
- 8+ or more years of focused experience in multistate tax, including a deep understanding of state and local tax laws, regulations, and procedures as well as US GAAP income tax accounting
- Proven analytical, project management and organizational skills
- Requires expertise and faculty representing McCormick with external auditors and peer companies
- Excellent communication and writing skills, strong orientation to detail, strong time management and organizational skills
- Demonstrates an open attitude to change and is able to develop and/or implement changes that are of a strategic nature
- Proven ability to lead and manage a team of tax professionals including fostering their long-term learning and development
- Strong communication and diplomacy skills are required to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas/depts
- Collaboration within teams and individuals across organizational boundaries
- Work with internal and external parties that impact financial reporting of income taxes with an emphasis on continuous improvement, learning and understanding of how the company operates and how income tax reporting for financial statement purposes can be improved.
Base Salary: $140,610-253,080
Base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience for this role, and/or internal equity of our current employees as part of any final offer. This position is also eligible to participate in McCormick’s Incentive Bonus (MIB) Plan/ McCormick’s Sales Incentive Bonus (SIB) Plan/ McCormick’s Dividend Program.
