SENIOR FLAVOURIST

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Develop products as per the project briefs, specifications and requirements made by customers. Present the newly developed products to the customers.
  • Executes project activities, measurably impacting, overall success of project
  • Proactively works with multifunctional long and medium term research teams to provide documented innovative ideas or methods that contribute to the overall success of the team. Leads the collection & organization of documentation necessary to move projects to next phase
  • Initiate and drive forward briefs/development at flavour and ingredient suppliers to deliver winning product designs. Lead the management of key suppliers from an R&D point of view giving actionable, objective feedback developing our supplier base working toward increased growth for both McC and chosen suppliers.
  • Manage projects within budget, with clear objectives for success identifying defining and communicating risks associated with projects by ensuring that the appropriate cross-functional resources (sensory, research, regulatory, commercial, consumer insights, technical services, production and QC) are allocated and co-ordinated to achieve the customer brief to agreed cost and time targets.
  • Improve existing products by modifying /replacing ingredients / introducing new ingredients.
  • Reduce the cost of existing products by moving to cost competitive ingredients, omitting certain ingredients and / or changing levels of raw ingredients without compromising on the finished product quality.
  • Attend production trials internally and / customer site.
  • Take a customer facing role in all appropriate customer meetings presentations, store support, trials and project updates.
  • Attend presentations by suppliers, internal meetings, as well as meetings and conferences with customers.
  • Use sound commercial and technical awareness of our ingredients, processes and customer requirements to deliver ‘right first time’ from scale up in the customers factory ensuring a flawless launch in all customer plants.
  • Ownership for briefing to the Sensory Group and reporting results to the customer of any sensory or consumer-based validation tests that relate to projects undertaken.
  • Mentor junior team members with respect to lab protocol and technical understanding. Help to develop NPD trainee technologist and NPD technician by sharing her/his expertise.
  • Maintain company standards for administration, Health & Safety, GMP and housekeeping in the work environment.
  • Keeping up to date with latest technologies and developments and incorporate these into project work if they prove to be beneficial.
  • Maintain highest standards of food hygiene and have these standards in mind when working on project briefs.
  • Maintain awareness and keep up to date with current food legislation.
  • Conducting some technical department functions such as hygiene and internal audits when necessary.
  • Other ad hoc duties as appropriate, in line with business requirements.

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

  • Graduate from Food Science Stream/ Food Engineering
  • Product development experience in sector.
  • Project management skills
  • Develops and deploys coaching & mentoring skills
  • Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise
  • Ability to build excellent customer relationships at all levels
  • Commercial knowledge and how it impacts the business
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team or individually (ability to use own initiative)
  • Ability to work cross-functionally within the team and show adaptability
  • Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative
  • Ability to manage lower levels of team members when tasked
  • Assertive and able to communicate efficiently to various levels within the organisation
  • Computer skills – Office program,etc.
  • Ability to work under pressure and on short deadlines
  • Effective time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to discuss and move forward ideas
  • Proven track record of creativity
  • General numerical and problem-solving skills (logical approach to problems)
