Position Overview
Functions as a flexible resource within the R&D lab, assisting with formula development, sample fulfillment, general lab organization and cleaning, technical problem-solving and other tasks as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Product Developers and Technicians with lab tasks/duties, including but not limited to:
- Compounding formulations and finished product applications as needed for customer sample fulfillment or tasting
- Develop product formulations under the guidance of more senior product developers.
- Enter relevant product information in Formulation and ERP applications to generate product specifications and Bills of Materials
- Prepare samples for shipping
- Prepare/set up raw materials, finished products and retention samples
- Manage lab inventory of raw materials, base, and supplies needed to support daily tasks
- Keep precise lab records/data
- Maintain sanitation and lab organization
- Set up samples for daily sensory panel, analysis of finished products and retention samples
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional team members on project and products
- Other tasks as required
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of twenty-four (24) college credits/CEUs OR in lieu of college credits, 1-2 years of lab experience
- Strong computer skills required. Experience with Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, Powerpoint), managing files and handling data
- Professional written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution
- Ability to be self-directed and motivated
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Ability to manage time and prioritize work effectively
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision and as a member of a team
- Experience following principles and making informed decisions
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to identify, analyze and solve problems
- Ability to present information to peers in a logical manner
- Must possess strong teamwork capabilities, flexibility to adjust to customer demands including weekends and overtime on short notice
- Ability to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
- Ability to lift 10 pounds continuously, 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally
- Solid math skills including the ability to work accurately with formulas and percentages
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in food science, chemical engineering, or related scientific field.
- Experience in a food manufacturing environment or lab and knowledge of food safety
- Familiarity with food formulation and ERP software applications
- Culinary skills or strong interest in developing culinary skills

- Research & Development Lab (daily)
- Raw material warehouse (daily)
- Food manufacturing plant (occasionally)
