Position Overview:
Reporting into the Regional Scientific and Regulatory Affairs Consumer Lead, the Regulatory Manager I primarily serves as a regulatory affairs and compliance expert in food contact packaging. The incumbent will provide guidance and direction to business partners by interpreting and evaluating regulations, industry standards and customer requirements. This position will serve as a Regulatory Packaging Subject Matter Expert (SME) supporting the assessment and validation of packaging materials in the region, offering regulatory interpretation, performing impact assessments, participating in regional horizon scanning programs, making risk-based decisions and managing overall customer/project expectations and KPIs. Secondary responsibilities include supporting wider regional regulatory affairs and compliance efforts, as capacity allows
Key Responsibilities:
• Regulatory Consultation: provides technical and regulatory guidance and direction within and outside of the Q&R and R&D function to ensure compliant food contact packaging
• Risk Analysis and Approval: evaluates packaging materials, claims, advertising, etc., as needed, to make proactive risk-based decisions to enable speed, competitiveness, and regulatory compliance
• Training and Development of Relevant Stakeholders: Effective communication and knowledge transfer ensuring safe food and compliance by design principles are understood as well as accurately and consistently implemented · Process Implementation and Optimization: Develops and implements new processes and procedures related to new and existing regulations, customer requirements, McCormick standards, etc.
• Governance and Oversight: Participates in programs to ensure that regulatory information is accurate
Secondary Responsibilities:
• Cross Functional Acumen (Procurement, Supplier Quality, Packaging R&D, Food Safety, Product Development, Sales/Marketing/Commercialization, Customer Service): Understand Quality and Regulatory excellence for multiple parts of the product lifecycle (develop, source, make, plan, deliver, customer)
• Ability to apply and assess appropriate processes and programs that are compliant with applicable Food/Packaging Industry while understanding business impact
• Ability to manage vendor and customer contracts and relationships to meet Food/Packaging
• Industry requirements and set expectations • Ability to develop and assess processes that are compliant with applicable regulatory, vendor, and customer requirements for site/team
• Provide leadership on Packaging Regulatory initiatives, implementation, training, and compliance • Ability to apply food and packaging regulations to critical business decisions
• Ability to interpret food and packaging regulations and responding to business needs (customer request, consumer request, business unit request)
Required Qualifications:
- Level of Education and Discipline: Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline
- Appropriate regulatory or food contact related certifications an advantage Food labeling / Packaging regulation course Introduction to Regulatory course and/or Food & Drug Law course and/or Packaging regulation course
- Experience - 4+ years Regulatory experience Experience in the Food/Packaging Regulatory Industry an advantage
Dimension:
The Regulatory Manager is responsible for partnering and providing Packaging Regulatory guidance and counsel to several teams: Product Development, Marketing, Sales, Customers, Certifying Bodies, Regulators and Raw Material Support teams. They contribute to the business strategy for our products. The Regulatory Managers are embedded within Product Development processes to meet the business and customers’ requirements and enable speed and agility in providing samples and finished goods through compliance by design. The Regulatory Managers will have technical knowledge of our product portfolio and the compliance environment.
