Your New Role
Under the direction of the CI Manager, the Process Engineer is responsible for the successful development of production systems that implement and capture best operating practices. The key objective of this role is to reduce variation in operating methods thereby improving consistency of product, reliability of equipment and repeatability of processes. The Process Engineer will work within the Journey to Excellence system to achieve these objectives. This role will work with Department Managers to ensure that the formal change process is used thereby ensuring that change proposals are done appropriately.
Some of the role responsibilities will include;
- Provide process engineering support and technical expertise to support departments in process issues working alongside with Department Manager(s)
- Develop CI and LEAN knowledge amongst senior leaders and shop floor employees through your subject matter expertise
- Pillar lead for FI (Focused Improvement) TPM Pillar streams of work (loss analysis & focused improvement)
- Data analysis to identify current gaps and opportunities for improvements as well as evaluation and recommendation of process capital improvements and automation
- Work closely with cross functional teams to drive implementation of cost improvement, energy saving, waste reduction and continuous improvement initiatives
- Facilitate the link with R&D to ensure new products moving into manufacturing are in line with process capability
- Engage in new equipment concepts and installations to understand capability and ensure it is suitable for purpose
- Drive the standardization of processes and the implementation of metrics and best practice
- Apply sound knowledge of both batch and continuous processing systems within the food manufacturing environment to optimise process capability, throughput, and compliance.
- Evaluate and improve product and process consistency through a deep understanding of unit operations such as mixing, homogenising, cross-contamination and sanitisation, across both discrete and flow-based production systems.
About You
- BSc in Engineering, Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical and Industrial preferred
- Food Science, or extensive (10+ years) applicable trade experience in FMCG environment with a minimum of two years of relevant production / engineering experience
- Sound working knowledge of plant operations, packaging and processing equipment and engineering
- Experience in TPM/LEAN
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills across all levels of the organization
- A passion for continuous improvement and developing people
- Results driven
- Demonstrated experience working with both batch and continuous processing systems in a regulated food or FMCG environment.
- Understanding of process control strategies, process characterisation, validation, and quality implications related to both process types.
