POSITION OVERVIEW

This Sr. Category Manager is a critical role in the Sales organization, supporting the development of account strategy, particularly in areas of assortment, pricing, merchandising and shelving and influencing the broader organization with best-in-class consumer insights.  The position will support the sales function through a category lens and is not an advisorship/ modular role.  This role will be focused on all of McCormick’s categories on the Sam’s Club account.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understanding industry, consumer and category trends and translating those insights into actionable strategic business recommendations to achieve both McCormick and customer goals and objectives in both B&M and ecommerce.
  • Providing analysis and shopper insights driven recommendations against all key business drivers, and leading presentations related to category business reviews/internal quarterly business reviews, assortment & space optimization, promotion & pricing effectiveness, and trade efficiency.
  • Managing internal cross functional partnerships with the headquarter teams including Business Insights and Category Management function to influence and build consumer-based analytics relevant to Walmart.
  • Managing 3rd party data analytic partnerships (ie. IRI), training sales team and create new tools (as needed) by the sales and category teams.
  • Leveraging all analytic tools available and become “power user,” for the team to incorporate results into customer facing opportunities.  
  • Developing collaborative partnerships with Sam’s Club by leading with best-in-class insights that drive value and flavor solutions to the customer and overall category.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors Degree in Business, Sales, Marketing or other related field. 
  • 5+ years Sales/Marketing experience, with a minimum of 2 years of Category Management experience within a CPG company.  Ecommerce experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with the Category Management process, and strong knowledge of syndicated and panel data (IRI, Nielsen, Spectra, etc.) as well as utilizing space management software (Apollo, JDA ProSpace, etc).
  • Knowledge and experience working with customer POS data systems (Retail Link, Madrid, etc)
  • Strong analytic skills and demonstrated ability to translate insights into actionable business recommendations that deliver positive results required.
  • Excellent verbal and written presentation skills, with the ability to analyze and understand the data and then effectively communicate those insights to both internal and external audiences required.
  • Ability to react quickly and complete tasks in a timely manner to meet deadlines required. 
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams, self-motivated and team oriented required
